At home, do you usually wear shoes or socks, or go barefoot? And what about at friends' houses? I usually go barefoot at both.

I have "house shoes" and slippers that I wear only when indoors. Outdoor shoes and boots are taken off in our mudroom. I live in New England, so we get lots of slush, dirt and road salt… always a fight to keep floors and carpets clean. I usually bring "house shoes" with me (in a tote) when I go to friends' homes. I am currently considering buying several sizes of slippers for houseguests to use when they visit -- leaving them in a basket by the front door.

I wear Alegria clogs. I have osteoarthritis, and my doctor told me to always wear shoes with a wide toe box and adequate arch support, and to never go barefoot.

Because of my foot problems I can't go barefoot at all. I do have some slipper-like house shoes, but in the past I've forgotten I have them on and have gone out in the mud to refill the bird feeders.To my regret. It is common in my area for people to go shoe-less inside, and then I ask permission to keep my shoes on.

Flip flops all the way at home, all year round! I'm in So Cal and it's not usual to take one's shoes off when visiting other people's homes, so I leave my shoes on.

Haflinger house slippers, usually, but if my shoes are comfortable, I'll just keep them on in the house. We don't have a "no shoes in the house" rule, I'm not a barefoot girl, and I hate wearing just socks and then stepping in spilled water.

Barefeet or slippers at home. And something to change into at a friend's home if it's a party of some sort. If it's casual, I put on knee hi stockings or socks, depending on the season. There is something odd (in my mind only ) about going barefoot in someone else's home. I'm not sure I want to see their barefeet in mine either When we entertain, I find most women bring shoes or sandals to wear, or have stockings or socks on at the very least.

Slippers in winter, barefoot in summer. Some friends like me to remove my shoes and so I do. If they don't care I leave them on since my feet are always cold.

When it's cold I wear socks in the house. My husband wears slippers. In the summer, I go barefoot as often as possible, and my husband switches out his slippers for flip flops.

At other people's houses I generally follow their lead. For most of my friends/family, no one wears shoes in the house. Shoes go in the breezeway and we all wear our socks inside. In the summer, when it's not slushy/muddy, I'm usually wearing sandals and I think I can go either way -- taking them off and going barefoot in someone else's place, or leaving them on. Just depends on whose house it is.

Barefoot or socks in the summer, usually depends on if im wearing sandals or sneakers that day.

Socks or slippers in winter. However, we recently moved to South Korea and our apartment is heated by pipes under the floor so sometimes my feet get too warm in my slippers. Its also custom to take ones shoes off when entering a home, no exceptions...our movers took their shoes off when they arrived with our stuff which surprised me, so i make sure ive got socks if were going somewhere ill have to take them off.

I wear sheepskin slippers at home (even in the summer my feet remain cold). When going to someone else's home, I try to wear or bring socks in case they prefer people remove their shoes. I would not want someone else barefoot in my home, and I extend the same courtesy.

Mostly barefoot, but this is normal for India. But I do prefer something on in the kitchen (icky spills and rolling peas can be plentiful with clumsy woman and exuberant youngling). This often is grass-bed flip-flops because easy to slip on. But something more covered and supportive for winter (so leather or even fluffy slippers I confess).

Barefoot year round with socks for the coldest days. After reading many threads on YLF, I have become self-conscious and have started wearing socks to other people's houses but shoes are always off.

Socks or slippers in winter, barefoot in summer. If I visit someone in the winter, I take my shoes off at the door and just walk around in my socks. In the summer, people don't seem to mind much if you just leave your shoes/sandals on, so I don't normally have to go barefoot in other people's homes.

Barefoot when warm outside, socks on when cold outside.

I always ask people to take their shoes off when they come into my house. My friends and neighbors have always commented that they are amazed that their socks are never dirty when they leave my house. My socks are always disgustingly filthy after I leave other peoples homes where they ask me to remove my shoes. I have a special pair of socks and slippers that I wear now when I visit others.

I'm always afraid I'll step on something and hurt my foot. I feel (literally)naked without socks and/or slippers on. I have house slippers I wear in winter and a pair of flip flops in summer. I adhere to the rules at others houses, but make sure I'm wearing nice socks if I know they are people who don't allow shoes inside.

In other people's homes I always ask if they'd like me to take my shoes off.

I wear slippers or socks in my house. I have extra slippers and cute socks for when guests arrive, but I tell everyone they don't have to take their shoes off if they don't want to. If I'm going to someone else's house, I follow their rules.

We are typically a socks on no shoes inside family. Dirt on the bottoms of your shoes is hard on your carpeting, as is the natural oil on the bottom of your feet. I'm a hit and miss house cleaner so the socks thing makes it easier.

I've never asked anyone to take off their shoes in my house, but most kids just do do naturally when they see the sea of shoes in our mudroom.

I've never been to anyone's house where guests were asked or expected to take their shoes off, and I've been to homes of politicians and other rather high-ranking people. I guess it depends on the social circles you're in.

I have never asked people to take their shoes off in my home.
