Ask Angie & YLF: What kind of leather jacket is most versatile w/ dresses?

I have an itching to go to my fabulous Danier outlet tomorrow and I was hoping to find a leather jacket that would work with various capsules - but most likely my travel and date night one - and will play nicely with dresses.

I would imagine that length would be a consideration; I think I would be looking at a waist-length one, because my skirt would just flare underneath it.

Any suggestions for jacket styling? A moto jacket?
Any suggestions for colour? Black is versatile but boring, no?

I tried to scour Pinterest for some ideas before bothering you nice ladies, but I couldn't really find an answer to my questions.

PS: I realize that these are all black motos - I guess they are very popular for bloggers!

ETA: My mom is making fun of me - because this is exactly how she used to wear her leather jacket when she was my age! And midi-skirts were in! She had a pleather jacket, but really wanted a leather one - and my dad's first gift to her was a beautiful grey leather jacket with a short trench style (she still wears it and refuses to give it to me)!

I like #2 best for a dress! (at least on her, it depends on the length of your body, really, so you will have to try and try and try)

Shorter in length for sure. And probably quite fitted because you prefer to define the waist. These moto jackets are fashionably fluid - which I personally prefer. My tailored fits are looser than most people wear their tailored fits. How do you feel about that fit?

Moto styling is fab, but so is non-moto styling.

Wear a flared skirt when you try the jackets on. Those are the trickiest to match with a jacket.

Your inspiration pics look right on target. I agree with Sveta that a cropped moto would be a fantastic complement to your skirts and dresses.

Short for sure--that would look great. Try different fits to see how tight you like the jacket to feel, and think whether you'll mostly zip or unzip, or both.
And see how you like the various collars and zips and strapping and all that--what is interesting and "edgy" enough but not overwhelming with details. Or you might want a jacket that is much more ladylike than the moto style. I think it's very jacket dependent and you may "know it when you see it".
I'd vote for one that fits your curves in the right places, but is not skin-tight when zipped, as having good longevity.

Maybe a leather aviator/bomber style jacket? I'm not sure if they are available nowadays. I like all your samples above except No. 2 because I personally would not like to deal with the dangling belt and hardware.
