Ask Angie: What kind of flats can you wear with bootcut jeans?

Hi Angie, I saw that you said that you didn't prefer flat oxfords with bootcut jeans. I have serveral pairs of bootcuts that I can only wear with flats (in fact most of them because it's hard to even get them that long). I know I can wear Converse with them, but what other kind of shoes would you choose?

You can wear what you like, actually! Personally, I have a preference.

I love flat cowboy boots with bootcut jeans (one inch boot heel) - wear that combo all the time.

I wear Converse too.

I do not wear ballet flats, loafers or flat oxfords with bootcuts. But I do have clients that do.

And I don't wear sandals either - at all, so that rules that shoe out too.

In addition to Angie's list, I actually just discovered that pointy toe flats look good with bootcuts.

I love my pointy toe flats with bootcuts. I have an almond toe oxford that looks good with bootcut too. Seems to me that the shoe has to be "strong" enough on it's own to balance the bootcut volume. So a patterned or bright color ballet flat seems to work better to my eye rather than a plain black/brown. Also, does a ballet flat work better with a slim jean boot rather than a wider leg boot?

OK, thanks! I don't think I can even do 1" heel with my bootcuts. I love pointy toe flats and am wondering why they only seem to be available in really expensive shoes? I LOVE the JCrew ones, but they are super expensive.

Pointy toe seems to be a re- emerging trend so may take a season or two to filter down. Or you can shop your archives/attic/parking lot from the first time around. I rooted in my shoe closet for items from 2005 with a pointy toe. Came away with both flats and heels.

I know, the super pointy toe ones are very expensive at the moment.

If I am understanding the general approach to types of shoes with pants it is: delicate shoes generally work best with straight (narrow straight) and skinny, and chunkier shoes with more "weight" work with bootcuts? Is that sort of right?

I love the Gabriella Rocha Hodge in the taupe/black pattern. I HAD to put them on my wish list. I have wanted to try an animal print shoe but want something not to "out there".

bj1111, I was wishing I had some of my old shoes. I had some fuschia, cobalt blue and zebra print, but probably fromthe 80's.

Zap, I like all of those shoes you posted. If those overstock ones fit you, you should snap those up!

Jem, I ordered the blue-tipped pair (though honestly it was a coin flip between those and the yellow) and plan to wear these as nudes. I'm hoping they're here by the end of the week!

I've read every word of this thread, Jem. I, too, have some bootcuts that are only suitable for flats. I'll watch for pointy toe flats at a lower price point!

Look at these from Madewell - I'm really tempted....haven't tried this brand.
$88 for the suede.

The jcrew point toe flats are so adorable but at nearly $200 they had better be - that's way too steep.
