Ask Angie - Short Sleeve Jackets

Any guidance on the short sleeve jacket? Seems this style is not going away but is it fab? Is it for everyone?

Here's a link to one style that seems to be everywhere - a slightly longer sleeve:

I have seen shorter sleeve styles too and wonder how you would work them - if at all.

Thanks! Chris

I hope they aren't going out of style - I have 5 jackets with short sleeves (black, white, khaki, red, purple). I get lots of wear out of all of them. But I personally prefer this length sleeve instead:

... yes, the dreaded cap sleeve... I think this length looks cute, and is also cooler in the warmer months. This length also works great layering long-sleeve shirts underneath in the fall and spring.

Good question, Chris. Short sleeved jackets are not flattering on everyone. But first, what do you understand by short sleeved jackets? Do you mean the styles with puffed sleeves? Care to post a few links of what you mean? I actually just bought a voluminous, short sleeved cropped anorak and you'll be seeing it next week.

(Usually, the most flattering length of short sleeve is elbow length-ish and tapered. It’s where the line cuts your arm in half – the same way a knee-length skirt or frock is best).

Short sleeved jackets - there are so many styles really.
Cap sleeves seem hardest to wear for me (but I lean towards apple shape with larger bust) but the elbow length seems dowdy.
Typically, I lean towards a 3/4 length sleeve since it crosses seasons easiest.

I will try to find some pics - I can't find a good method of posting pictures of myself yet but working towards it! Thanks

Sorry that I never saw the original link, Chris. Short sleeved jackets like that are a hit or miss. They either look dowdy, or fabulous. I don’t think it’s a trend –more of a classic basic really. At the end of the day my dear Chris, you’ve got to try the devil on and give it a whirl! I’m sure you’d look great in the right short sleeved jacket.

Shiny, you can keep on wearing your short sleeved jackets with style.

I just picked up a few short sleeved jackets from the limited. This one in particular was really flattering, at least on me. It nips in at the waist very nicely.

There are quite a few other examples on their site, including a lighter color for summer. I found the cap sleeve jackets to be really tricky. Some were cut too small in the upper arm, and I wouldn't consider myself to have particularly large arms.
