Ask Angie: Does this leather jacket style suit me? White or sand?

Hi Angie & everyone. I saw Angie's post about these jackets & went to try them on. I wasn't really looking for a new leather jacket for budget reasons but when I saw how reasonably priced these were & read about the quality I had to go & see them. I would have loved a Summer leather jacket in white or another colour but never thought I would spend the $500 & above for the ones I was seeing.

I am uncertain about the style. I'm wondering if the overlapping collar piece is unflattering or the high neck & straight opening? Is it just me not being used to it? Are these collars supposed to be worn zipped only? Would I look better with something with lapels that opened to create a V shape like my black moto in the 3rd & 4th pics or is straight opening OK when it is not so high at the neck & without the overlapping piece like the 5th pic? I like the length of these because my black one is cropped, as are my denim jackets so it is nice to have length options for different outfits, but I know I could find other jackets in this length & my dark brown one is this length. I don't seem to wear my dark brown one & maybe you can tell me if there is something wrong with it.

Should I get white or sand? I like the white trend this Summer. I also liked the cognac one (not pictured) but figured that leather jackets in cognac will always be available & didn't want to buy 2 or 3 right now, especially not knowing if this style suits me or will last.

Should I hold out for a better style of leather jacket? I'm not willing to spend more money on white leather as I don't know how long it will last before it is uncleanably dirty. I don't think it is cost effective to clean leather jackets too often. I like that this one has vents under the arms, great for Summer.

Also I only have front pics but what about fit? I could fit into a smaller one but zipped was tight & couldn't wear much underneath. Bigger was probably OK but I think this size felt best on me. It had some room for layers but it isn't outerwear.

I'm only wearing a cami under it for the photos so please excuse the tummy bulge.

I like this lapel-less style on you. I love the idea of a white jacket for you. But, I have to say, I prefer this jacket in the sand.

Your other leather jackets also look good. But it is great to have a change of style and pace as well, don't you think?

Suz I like having variety, especially with length. I'm mostly concerned with how high the neck is. I don't look good in turtle necks or high crew necks. Also I'm not sure about the overlapping bit on the collar. Is it just me not being used to it? Are these collars supposed to be worn zipped only?

I vote taupe (sand). I think it will mesh better with your style and wardrobe. AND you can wear it with a column of white.

KILLER look on you. A happy marriage! Size is perfect and so is the neckline. Don't give it a second thought.

Hmmm I trust Angie so much I'm thinking I should get the sand but white leather is so trendy right now & I never wear anything taupe near my face or anywhere much, until recently I bought shoes in it & a bag. Maybe I should get both. Have to convince hubby. Also have to hold off on other items for a while. This shade of taupe is warm & is ok near my face & maybe even more flattering than white. Now cognac I think really goes with my wardrobe. I have boots & bags in it too, not that everything has to match. I get so indecisive. Now I know why my mother used to buy duplicates in different colors.

By all means get the white!

I find cognac - although perhaps more flattering - very seasonal. It looks best in Autumn and Winter. Taupe and White and less seasonal in my mind.

Hmm yes I thought the same with cognac & I can find one anytime. Angie if you don't mind can you tell me why you thought the sand is best with my wardrobe? That would help me understand & to choose. Thanks:) If I could afford it I would buy the sand & then buy a white leather lapel style moto but they are all expensive.

I'll happily give you my two cents:

White is very crisp and modern. Sterile, strict and quite cold. Not bohemian or earthy either. Your style is warm, earthy and boho, although I see many modern elements too. Especially with all the white jeans outfits. Perhaps that is the direction you want to evolve your style into, Elle? If so, go for the white. I suggested the sand because it can bat for both teams of your style persona.

Thanks so much for explaining Angie. I know you are busy. I'm not set on either one & still honing my style so that is why I'm unsure & need your guidance. Suz I thought white was the way to go because it is so big this Spring/Summer but Angie is so wise. I'm a gemini who is boho, earthy & becoming a little more modern so I need both lol! Hubby doesn't agree. I guess I could wear my black moto when dressing modern & get the sand one for my boho outfits. I don't know if black is very Spring/Summer though. There is this one at Zara that is cream, between the 2 colours & with the open lapel into a V.

Elle, why don't you experiment with both jackets in your closet for a while. Perhaps your decision will be clearer after that.

Also, I wear my black motos in Spring quite a bit - but ALWAYS with white jeans. I add a light cashmere pullover, scarf for warmth, taupe boots and light bag. That way I do not feel all Wintery.

See Angie you are so wise. The Rack has a 30 day return policy. As long as I don't wear them I can try them on with different pieces in my wardrobe & get a feel for them without missing out on either one due to them selling out & then return the one that I don't find as useful with my wardrobe. You are so fab! And tomorrow, because today I have been a forum hog, I will post a link to my pinterest to see if the members can see a style persona emerging because I am confused these days.

There you go, we have a strategy :).

Newbie here, I am also looking into buying a leather jacket, though I have never found that closed comfortably. I am a petite apple and haven't found the right one yet. I would never wear one closed, so should I just go and buy one well fitting "when open" jacket ? Moto or v necked?

archoo if you never wear it closed then I would buy one that looks good open. When my bust was larger I would do that. If I bought to fit my bust it was too big every where else.
