I'm so in love with Rae's outfit today with the BB shirt under the orange jacket, that I think I might pop for a BB button down myself since I've had zero luck finding the right one in local stores and BB has their shirts in petite. My question is which fit is the best for an apple body type - tailored, fitted, classic?: I need something that is not too snug over the mid section so am thinking fitted is out.

Shannon, I think you should take a mini-vacation to Vegas and try on all the fits in person. Then you will know what size, cut is best. If you don't mind a bit of a drive, fly out of Grand Forks and you can get a 4 day vacay for about $400 per person for air/hotel combined. It is only an hour further than the Winnipeg airport and parking is cheap. You can also order from Nordies and pick up the packages in Pembina on the way home. Take along your hubby and use his $400 exemption too and you have a vacation and shopping extravaganza all rolled into one.

Or you could fly down to Philly. No tax on clothes or shoes here. We have a brooks brothers, you could try on every size.

Actually I am wondering about these shirts too. I have a feeling they wouldn't be so great on my pooch.

This is an interesting question. I am yet to try Brooks Brothers shirts so I am curious what the answer will be. Shannon, keep in mind that they will sometimes have 40% off sales on almost everything (I think maybe twice a year?). Even now they have a bunch of shirt at half-price, but none in white.

Last time I was searching for BB shirts I ended up buying a Thomas Pink shirt instead on a gigantic sale (something like 70% off). I really like the quality, and the heavy-weight fabric in a fitted style conceals the appli-ness.

Ooh. Eagerly awaiting Angie's reply on this. I am heading to New York later this month and plan to do some shopping! WIth some online ordering in advance to be delivered to a friend's home and picked up.

Not Angie but I would say the fitted might be best, IMO. The traditional is too shapeless.
I did try the three styles and kept my original purchase, which is the tailored fit.
By the way, I did a complete 360 on my opinion as of the crispness. Those shirts are golden.

Zap is right, the fits are generous! Mine are "fitted" yet do not come anywhere near my waist. I can wear them as tunics with jeans. I believe Angie has their "tailored" fit, which is more shaped to the body, but she has said they are not nearly as tailored as her Ann Fontaine shirts.

Sizing was pretty TTS for me. I have size 2s from J. Crew, and I can usually do a 0-2 at Ann Taylor and XS at Banana Republic. I got the BB2, and I they fit well at the bust with no gaping.

Thanks Zap and Rae - I just did some more searching here on YLF and there's been about three of us who have asked Angie about the BB shirts - guess I should have checked that before asking myself!!!

Yes, Angie wears the tailored and it does sound like the fitted would be a good option, although I still have serious concerns about it buttoning properly over the midsection. Maybe if I sized up one from my regular size?

Do you have your measurements? My thought is for you to call BB and ask for a size recommendation. The store reps were very knowledgeable. Perhaps you could call the NYC store on 6 Ave and 49th street, I believe. They seemed to be very well versed in their merchandise.
ETA: They were TTS to me as well. I am an S in Banana and 4-6 on AT tops. I got the size 6. I tried the 8 but it was too roomy.

Thanks again Zap - based on your advice, I actually emailed Customer Service with my measurements and my question on which size/fit would work better for me! Let's see what they say...I'm also pleasantly surprised at their shipping cost to Canada is. It's about half what Nordstrom's charges.

I found that the petite fit me better everywhere except the shoulders were a bit snug. The middle cut is what I went with as I felt the most tailored didn't drape as well.

Oh, and yes, I have done the LV thing out of Grand Forks a few times. I love the shopping there and have seen almost all of the Cirque de Soleil shows - a few twice. We may go this year for my 50th.

You should check it out. They have great specials too. I've gotten flights for $79-$119 a few times and the taxes are almost nothing compared to the $200 per ticket here.

Dianthus - I've seen Cirque every time they'v come to Winnipeg and am amazed at their shows. I always feel like I'm 5 years old, watching them on the edge of my seat with my mouth wide open in astonishment!

When I was at one of our malls the other day, I was surprised to see that there was a Brooks Brother's store!! I have to say it was a bit intimidating, so I barely went in.. It was huge and I didn't know where to start. I will have to get brave and check it out more.

Based on Yelp reviews, the BB store in my area is notorious for poor and snobby service with multiple people swearing never to return. I plan to drop by in a couple of weeks when I am in the area, but I am not really looking forward to it. I hate overbearing SAs, but I find it even more annoying to be ignored when I obviously am looking for service. This happened to me at Nordies once, and it really ticked me off. It wasn't like looked like a street person; frumpy, maybe, but that return would have taken her three minutes max to scan.

I've been to a few BB stores (a couple of outlet stores, one regular, and one in an airport) and had nothing but pleasant service (even though I was not particularly well dressed). DH bought something from an outlet store (I think a jacket and maybe pants for going on job interviews) and had to take it to a regular store for alterations - that was fine, too.

Well I have received an answer back from a lovely lady at BB's Customer Service Department regarding my inquiry as to size. I gave my measurements and she has responded on which fit and size would work for me based on those measurements. She actually said I have the same measurements as her (which could be a lie of course but..). She suggested I go with the Fitted version of the shirt (not tailored or classic fit) and obviously, in petite.

I was very impressed with the quick response, the detailed answer and just the pleasant demeanour in the reply. Now all I have to do is decide whether or not to pull the trigger!

I did it! I've ordered a shirt! I chose the fitted version, long sleeve (didn't want the 3/4 sleeve) in light purple! Given my wardrobe, this colour will go with many things and I just felt like getting something other than black or white. If the fit is great and I like the shirt, I will probably order a white one later on.

Interesting that they only charge a total of $18.95 for delivery to Canada whereas Nordstrom charges $39. Just saying.

Can't wait to see your new shirt on you. I tried one on at the BB store and it was too short for me. I found the Foxcroft fits me better.
