I'm planning on getting a pair of boots to wear with skirts and dresses. I've been looking at Duo Boots, since I have hard to fit skinny calves. I'm only going to buy one pair this year. What color would be best to start with? I'm thinking either a black or brown, since I want it to go with most of the clothes I have. They have some lovely burgundy boots, but I'm thinking that's probably not the best place to start? I always wondered why I felt like a pirate when I wore my current pair of black boots. Thanks to YLF, I now know it's because they don't fit!

Boof, what colors do you wear most in fall/winter? What image do you like to project? Imho, in very general terms black has more of an urban vibe, a toughness, while brown is a bit softer. But it depends on the styling of the boot and texture. Patent is completely different in looks from matte leather or suede.

I'd go with black first. Also, what is your calf measurement? You might not be as hard to fit as you think.

Boof i've found burgandy to be quite versatile i've some ankle boots in that colour. I treat them as i would brown. I've worn them with black, navy and brown x

My calf measures right at 13 inches. I'm fairly picky and want a good quality pair of leather boots, but I don't want to spend $500 for them. Several of my winter skirts and dresses are black, my favorite being a short black and white spotted wool skirt. I would also wear my denim pencil skirt a lot, which would look good with any color. I'm blonde and generally more of a brown girl. I agree that it tends to be softer, but I'm thinking I'll get more mileage out of the black. However, I can see those burgundy boots being fairly neutral like a red. Hmmm...decisions, decisions.

I've been drooling over duo boots for months now- hands down i'd go for the 2nd pair the conker ones they are yummmmmy x

I have always loved burgundy leather. Go for it, when you find a good burgundy get it because it doesn't seem to come around that often. I also love the flower detail!!
I'd treat it like it is brown.
Does anyone know what burgundy boots would not go with? I think they would not be for spring, but more for autumn and winter colors.

Hm, tough decision. I agree that burgundy is much more versatile than you would expect (to San's point, I can't think of a colour it would really clash with), but a pair of fab black boots are an invaluable asset to your wardrobe too.

i don't know, would you wear burgundy with purple? that seems like a clash to me. whatever it is, i'd still say go for the burgundy (ha! i'm contradictory like that). it seems more "fall" to me, and like san says, a good burgundy is hard to find. black boots are indispensable in winter, but they look terribly heavy sometimes in other seasons.

I must admit that I keep looking at those burgundy boots and drooling. They are speaking to me, so I may have to just do it. I agree that black boots are a wonderful staple, but they will be easier to find later.

Hanna, I bought an awesome purple dress at NAS, and I wondered the same thing...will they clash? Maybe not, if they're the right shade. If they do, I have other things that will work with that dress. I'm also in Atlanta, so I won't be so worried about being able to wear my boots into the Spring.

I believe y'all have talked me into burgundy boots! Thanks for helping me think this through!

Boof, I know this would probably mean not getting your boots from Duo, but have you considered gray? If you have a lot of black in your wardrobe and you're blond, gray would probably go with most things and soften the look a little.

Boof you've got me drooling over those boots i've been avoiding duo's website for a few weeks now! I'm going to have to hide the credit card!
Will you post pics when you get them and let me know how comfy they are? I've ordered several pairs of cheaper boots in the last few weeks and they have all had to go back as the shafts are huge round my calfs so would be interested in how you get on x

Grey boots are fabulous too! Oh boy I bet we're confusing you even more Boof;-)

But if the burgundy boots are really speaking to you, I'd go with my instincts. By the way, personally I don't think purple and burgundy clash (it will of course depend a bit on the two shades), it's a very rich colour combination that can look fantastic. I just typed in "purple and burgundy" in Polyvore and got these results. Don't mind all the individual pieces, just have a look at the colour schemes and see if you like it...

Ooh I like the look of the burgundy ones and while I am drawn to them, I am in the same situation as you. I only have one pair of boots at the moment and need a pair for dresses and skirts. I'm personally going for black as they are the most versatile and I need to get the basics sorted out in that department before looking for more statement pieces that will only work with part of my wardrobe.

Loulou, if I get them, I'll post pics, etc. They are definitely a splurge, but I plan for it to be my only major purchase of the season. Have you seen the teal suede boots on duo with the buttons? I could never walk in them, but they are beautiful! I'm a sucker for color.
