Ask Angie: And all - How do you tuck sneaker laces?

This may be a dumb question but how does everyone tuck their sneaker laces. I tried tucking them into the side and find they are too uncomfortable.

Sometimes like this, which works well with Converse type sneaks:

But my new Propets are laced a little differently at the top because the eyelets won't allow a second thread through of the lace (hole is too small). So I just fold each end of the lace neatly and tuck them away by the tongue of the shoe so that it does not rub my feet. It takes a while - you have to be patient to create the look and make sure it's comfy. I am just the pedantic person to fiddle with that part of it until it's right though. Those details are very important to me.

I think the problem is my laces are too long. I think it would work and be more comfortable if they were shorter.

The shoes look great on, Deb!! Are they comfy?

I use Angie's technique with my Cons. But with my new ones, for some reason, the laces WILL NOT stay put. I can't see why. Come to think of it, this happened with my previous Cons for the first six to eight wears, and then stopped happening. When I walk, the laces just come loose and start falling out! It may have stopped after I washed them the first time. Hmmmm....Need to ponder that.

One reason might be the direction of the lacing. I think I laced from UNDER the hole when I re-laced after washing. So the last one (the tuck) was the only OVER lace through. If that makes any kind of sense.

I've never been able to do it. I have tried Angie's technique with my Hi-Nesses and they will not stay tight enough for my liking. Partly I am sure this is because I have skinny ankles and low-volume feet so I like my laces tied VERY tightly. I've just made my peace with the loopy bows.

Hah, Suz. Your lace tying tales remain a mystery. I think lacing UNDER makes a difference though.

Deb, nice sneaks. Re-thread the ends and tuck to shorten the laces. I think it will work.

Diana, your big lace bows work with your romantic, maximal and eclectic style. They tend to look daft with my style.

So glad this question has been posted. I've been trying to tuck my laces and failing spectacularly. I wasn't using this technique though. My failures related to either my feet geeting irritated by the laces (which are super long since my feet are so thin) or they would come untucked as I walked. I am going to try this way and see what happens. Fingers crossed I don't have too much lace for it to work! Thanks!

Yes, Angie, doing from Under definitely helps, but doesn't seem to be stopping them from coming loose this time. But maybe with a bit more wear-in it will work, as it did with my previous shoes. I agree that bows look good on Diana. But they look loopy on me, too -- literally!

So I MUST find a way to tuck. One idea that I hit on accidentally -- tie a little knot in the lace near where you want it to "stay put" once you've laced it through for tucking. It will be harder to get them off, but may stay put better when on.

Just remembered I saw an interesting way to tie laces on hi top cons on a blog recently:

So basically she's looped the laces around her ankle and tied them in a very small bow above her shoe, kind of ballerina style. But I wonder if it could be modified so that the part wrapped around the ankle is lower down; in other words, if it's inside the shoe and you could hide the small bow under the tongue or even at the back of the ankle?
