Ask Angie & All: Outfit With Tux Shirt For Dinner Party

Hi Angie and all,
Yesterday two very nice things happened: First, I got a lot of inspiration to wear my lovely tuxedo shirt more often, and next, a friend invited us over for a small dinner party on Saturday. Wow! I want to wear my tuxedo shirt then for sure. But how?

I've made a suggestion where it's paired with my plum full skirt. I've added black micro fishnets, a narrow black belt and my snakeskin brownish peep toe pumps. I have a very meager collection of clutches, so it has to be the white Danier one from this Summer. I'm going to wear black heeled boots to and from the party, maybe even at the party. For topper - the red coat, of course. I've added the leopard scarf for warmth, and the black bag and brown gloves (I don't have black ones yet).

Remember that Norwegians dress up more for parties and less for work than what's common other places. I feel that the dressiness level of the skirt is ok, it is after all of wool, and not a very festive fabric. Should I keep the boots on instead of changing for shoes? My friends won't mind that.

What do you think? Should I remove or add anything? Please be honest.

I think it looks really nice - and you could go either way with the boots or the shoes. If you choose to go with the shoes, the gloves and scarf are good bookends to those so maybe I'm leaning slightly towards the shoes.

I like it with the boots, but it's also pretty if you change into shoes. (I don't know what is customary where you live.)

I think this looks great. Shoes seem more dinner party like but I think I prefer the boots, so I am no help!

My only thought is maybe adding a pop of color somewhere as the black and white feels a bit strict for a casual dinner party.

Thanks, all! It seems to me that I'm on the right track - phew. Thistle, the skirt is not black, is has a rich plum color. I like the shoes a lot, but I feel that the boots add a slightly more modern vibe, which is good in my book. Do you agree?

I love this color combo, but I too am on the fence. I like the shoes because it's unexpected and goes nicely with the scarf and the fall vibe. I also like the boots because they are an edgy twist to your ladylike skirt and tuxedo top.

This is gorgeous! The scrunched sleeves add a casual touch. I have a slight preference for the boots since they go with the belt, but I have some matchy-matchy tendencies, so take that for what it's worth. Love how the leopard scarf and red coat play with the rich plum skirt.

Outfit goes well with the boots and shoes. IMO boots always seem more casual, even dressier ones, so if you want to be more dressy wear the shoes.

I prefer it with the boots, it seems less fussy to me, but I think you definitely make it work with either choice! Your point on your culture dressing differently for certain occassions is well-taken, I discovered this sort of thing when I moved from Pennsylvania to Arkansas (obviously not completely similar since I'm not breaching actual borders or anything :)!) But I found myself dressing up for occassions that I would have went much more casual for up north when I moved to the south. So that being said, if the heels are more appropriate, they look great too!

And I apologize for the rambling, but you're spot on in choosing that scarf! Paired with the red coat, it adds great playfulness to your beautiful, formal outfit!
