Are these sneakers too "gear"?

I tried these on in the fuchsia color at a store near my house and felt like I was walking on clouds. Are they too gear for stylish casual wear? The other styles I've been looking at are a bit more streamlined (Converse, Onitsuka Tigers). The big white chunk on the side of the sole, in particular, bugs me a bit.

I agree that the chunk of white and the black sole makes them look like running shoes. I'm interested to hear what others think though--could open up some footwear possibilities for me too.

That's what I thought. I think I'll file them away as replacements for my gym sneakers when the time comes.

These are gear, the Nike Air Pegasus is the shoe I wear for distance running. It's made for high arches, that's probably why you found it so comfy. (It is!)

I didn't know they came is so many great colors though, I only see them at the running store here in Canada in a couple of colors. I'm going to have to order some more! (Don't use them for gym shoes, they don't have enough lateral support, they are made for running or walking.)

I think Anna is on to something here - if you wear them in an intentionally non-gearish manner, they might work. In Anna's outfit, the overall look isn't one of gear so I don't think of the shoes in that manner, if that makes any sense.

The neon green in Anna's sneaks call attention to her necklace, but that sort of colour matching is difficult to do with most outfits. With the man-repeller outfit, the shoes are clearly juxtapositioned against the outfit - again, hard to do with most outfits. The Nikes here are gear to me. There are a few outfits where they would work, ala man-repeller or Anna. But as for getting regular wear? I think that would be far more difficult.

These read gear to me. Sure, you can style them otherwise, but unless you are careful, I think they will read gear.

They aren't going to fade into the background like a typical tennis shoe. You won't be able to rely on them to be a good team player in a supporting role. These are shoes you are going to have to plan you outfit around if you don't want them to be gearish. If that isn't what you'd planned for them, then pass. If you don't mind that, then buy!

Yes they are gear but pretty darn nice gear. the turq ones have a coloured sole. I can attest the the nike pegasus as being a great shoe. Did you see my post to your other thread on building your own with reebok? you could pick your sole colour. http://www.reebok.ca/customise.....CA,sc.html

Nice gear. I'm not sure of your style. Whether you should get them or not depends on what you want to wear them with.
