Are inverted triangles just rare for a specific demographic of people?

My whole family are inverted triangles and it seems to me most inverted triangle vary the most of all shorts some of my family have big boobs and curvy bottoms others have small chested and smaller bottoms some have defined waists some don't. I don't get why it would be rare when this category has women that look all different ways more than any other shape. Also noticed in the Latin American community here a lot of the women are shaped with much broader shoulders and straighter hips. At my old job most of the women were inverted triangles and then after that were apples. I hardly see many pear shaped women in my region usually it's either inverted triangle Apple or rectangle. Not really pears or hourglasses. I don't get why it is said it's a rare shape for women when I've seen many woman that fit that description. So what's it based on?

I feel I am a rare case in my family (originally from India). Most women are hourglassy (which is a body ideal there) or pears, and in my family many have sloping shoulders. I can tell I'm an "off" shape because when I'm there, buying clothes, I am ALWAYS having to get the tailors to add room in the shoulders for sari blouses and kameez, or to have things custom made, so they don't rip at the seams!

I'm shaped differently than my sisters, and my daughters are shaped differently than I am, so I don't know what to think. I do notice that many Latin American women seem to be either rectangles or apples.

No idea. I am a rectangle and my sister is a definite IT. My mother is a classic hourglass. Genetics, man. You never know what you'll get.

I just slowly get dressed if my shoulders are too big.

And yeah my mom has sloping shoulders they're still bigger than her hips. I always felt my mom was just a small version of an inverted triangle.

I see all sorts of shapes where I am from. However, I do know that sometimes when women get older their body fat distribution changes, which can either enhance a previous apple/IT tendency, or can create one where there wasn't before. I've always been some combination of hourglass/rectangle, and I am about the same as my mum. My sister has always been an hourglass. In DH's family, all the women tend to be ITs or apples.

Interestingly, when we had our children, we could tell their body shapes as soon as they started walking. Even though people talk less about men's body shapes, they definitely tend toward differences, too. Although my boys are both shaped like traditional men (larger shoulders than hips), my oldest actually has a bum and a higher waist. My younger boy has ZERO butt, to the point that his pants tend to fall down. They wear very differently shaped pants - my older wears relaxed jeans while the younger wears slim fitting. My DD seems to take after me so far, but she is still young, so puberty may change her shape.

My mom is a pear with sloping shoulders. My sister is an hourglass. I'm an IT with straight shoulders. But my shoulders are not so broad I struggle to find tops & toppers: it's just that my hips & rear & legs are boyish in comparison, and I gain weight on my upper body before my lower body (including my back, shoulders, upper arms, chest). I also have apple tendencies with a 0.8 waist/hip ratio no matter how slim or fit I am, meaning that pants, skirts and anything with a fitted waist are my most difficult fit issues - if it fits the hips, it's too tight in the waist, if it fits the waist, it's too loose in the hips. Another clue I'm IT is that I'm likely to need a larger size on the top than the bottom.

I have one daughter who is a pear with sloping shoulders -- she very much takes after my mom. Both regularly need a size on top that's one or more sizes smaller than the bottom. My other daughter is built more like me, except her shoulders are even broader and more pronounced, her chest is bigger, her waist is tiny, and rear & her thighs are quite muscular. If it wasn't for her shoulders she would be an hourglass. But her shoulders are so broad - this is, in fact, her number one fit issue. She has to size way up to accommodate her shoulders. I don't have to do that but I still can quickly look like a line backer in certain styles meant for more dainty shoulders, like epaulettes.

Echo I thought ITs held weight differently from apples?

I'm an inverted triangle I mainly gain in the bust.

Angie or others may be better at defining this than I am, but I thought ITs were defined more by shoulder vs hip measurement, whereas apples may have broader shoulders or may simply carry weight in their upper body. I believe ITs typically gain weight in the upper body, too, though.

No my mom's family gain in all different spots not just upper half....

An apple gains in the waistline. Which I rarely see in inverted triangles.

I'm an inverted triangle and gain in my bust mainly and my waist is defined. An inverted triangle simply is someone who has broader shoulders than hips you can gain weight at the bottom half like my mom and aunt or at the bust like my grandma and aunts. I don't believe there was a specification on where one gains weight but I have a question on this.

Think I'm sorta built like your daughter but my bust is visibly larger than my hips and I have a defined waistline with a muscular bottom half. But I can fit the same size top and bottom it's just a tighter squeeze extra small shirt with certain materials I can easily break getting into them if i try to rush putting on my shirt. But I can fit a 0 easier.
