Greenglove, I think it is awesome that you work as an art professor. I imagine that you would want to wear pants to class that could withstand paint accumulation. But, for those times when you are not painting, might i suggest a gradual shift to smart casual? When I first starting reading Angie's posts about this and starting dressing in the "flop-proof" way, it did seem a big more dressy than I was used to. I live in a college town, and ultra casual wins the day. But now that I'm about 2 years into smart casual dressing, I do not at all feel uncomfortable. You do not have to be less urban/arty/funky to be smart casual. It is a style that lends well to each style persona. Check out these posts if you haven't already:
