Aquatalia "Sweeties" please help with size

This is kind of urgent because I need to return one pair this weekend.
I got the Sweeties in my size and also in half a size larger.
I need to return one pair hopefully tomorrow but I am having a hard time choosing which size to keep. The feet swell a bit in the Summer so the fit will change in the Winter. I tried them with trouser socks and the length is good in my regular size but the width is better in half size larger.
I'd love to keep both pairs and decide in the Fall but it's too much money so that is ruled out.
The best would be if they had my size in wide width but they don't have it.
I am afraid to keep the bigger size and then maybe they will be too big in the Winter...
Please help me decide. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Try them in the morning with the type of sock you intend to wear them with. Any swelling in your feet should have gone down then and they should resemble your "winter" feet more closely.

If you can bear it, put on an actual fall outfit so you can see how they feel with that.

Thanks, Suz. I'll try them again in the AM. I'm too tired now and hopefully my feet will be less swollen then, I did not think about that before. I will also check with a skirt and with pants.

How do they fit with your calves? Have you tried walking around the house in them? I ordered this boot too but I think I'm going to return them because I have narrow calves and ankles and I'm just swimming in them. They look like galoshes on me!

Oh, sorry GP! I have the opposite problem. For me they are pretty good because I have high volume feet and large calves and ankles, so at least I don't get the flowerpot effect. My thing is that I have to figure out if the width will work in the Winter with thicker socks on. It's very tough to buy off-season, you never know for sure.

I bought these boots too in my regular size and I adore them but they are a bit narrow. I am wondering if they will stretch any?? I wore mine in the house a bit and I think my heel is slipping a bit. Did you notice if your heel is slipping? Sizing up never seems to work for me because my feet especially the heel slips and that can cause blisters. I hope they will get wider while we sleep

I'd keep the bigger ones. You can use thicker socks and even add cushioned inserts. Every time I've gone for the smaller size, I've been sorry in the long run.

Echoing Joy here. You can always wear thicker socks, but if they're too small, there's not a lot you can do. I bought these in my regular size and will adjust if necessary. I think they'll be versatile boots and can't wait for winter to try them out.

I meant to add that I will be posting about these boots as soon as i can also. I ordered and bought and returned last year's version.

Then I ordered and bought (and may return) this year's version.

I love them and for me the fit is good. Opposite to Jeanie, I find them a bit on the wide side (though not too wide).

My heel definitely slips -- but for me this is normal in all footwear because I have a narrow heel. (I won't get blisters wearing socks.)

I'm just not sure they flatter me and wish they were not black.

Jeanie, I think the heel always slips in flat boots. I did a compulsive research on that a few years ago and found that they all slip, at least on me, and my heels are not narrow. I hope your boots widened overnight...

Joy and JayS, I listened to what Suz suggested and tried them first thing in the morning. I realized that the ones in my size rub a bit on the little toe so it looks like my size is ruling itself out and I will need the half size larger. I did try them with trouser socks and not stockings. I may want to wear them with tights but on very cold days I will need my thicker socks.

Suz, maybe if you will wear your boots with a dark coat or jacket they will work for you? I can't wait to read your post on these boots.

Don't know these exact boots, but my low volume, bony ankled feet usually prefer Aquatalias half a size up, leaving me plenty of room for a comfort insert. They often seem to run a little narrow and shortl

I also find Aquatalia to run slightly narrow and short. I agree that your best bet is the larger size with a thicker sock or an insole.

Agree that with boots it is often fairly easy to work with slightly larger size and actually make them more comfortable with inserts and cushioned socks as have been suggested--that's as long as they don't actually fit "funny" and crease in the wrong place or rub. And for very cold days the insulating factor is better if your feet are not pinched at all.

For those who find their heels slip in flat boots: I find that heel cups (like the kind Angie mentions) help a lot for me.

The flowerpot effect is the look you get of narrow calves wearing wide boots. It looks a bit like standing in flowerpots.

Thanks, ladies! It looks like the half size larger is winning but I will check again because my size is comfortable with thin socks and maybe a little big.
I will most likely keep the larger size though.

Karymk, the flowerpot effect is when the leg looks like it's swimming in the boot or bootie, sort of like the stem of a flower in a vase. I believe it happens to people with slender bone structure and low volume feet, neither of which is the case by me so at least I do not need to worry about the flowerpot situation.
