Anyone else loving the 50's fashion on "Call the midwife"

I have been enjoying the british show call the midwife which is showing in Australia at the moment and really enjoy the outfits worn by a couple of the midwives when not on duty - the narrator Jenny and the flirty blond one.

I am glad that I haven't got rid of my one 50's ish dress thought I haven't worn it for a while.

I do think though that 50's fashion really looks best on quite a small range of body types - narrow shouldered, reasonable bust, small waist (so probably not my best look!)

Haven't heard of the show... or have i? Sounds interesting!

I heard something on the radio that what used to be a size 8 is now called a six. That certainly seems true when I go into vintage stores and try on '50s dresses. But I also can't imagine so many tiny people existing.

'Course everybody wore girdles too.

Apparently it was more popular than Downton Abbey in the UK.

I think people were smaller, especially in England where there had been food shortages for years - and of course, wore girdles, as you say. But I have seen plenty of home snaps of people from the 50's with very unflattering looks! And while I enjoyed some characters' fashion in the show, others are not so great.
