Ann Taylor Skirt for Pear

If you are a true pretty pear, I'd pass.
I am, and especially was more so in the past. If I did a-line or full skirts, they'd have to fit below my knee (right below) otherwise I felt like the fullness accentuated my lower half.

I'm a pear/hourglass, and I can do the right kind of full skirt -- almost more of an A-line -- but I stay away from gathered waists. I prefer a skirt that is fitted at the waist and flares gently, in a soft drapey fabric that doesn't either pouf out or cling.

I saw this in the store and passed. I thought it looked like it had more volume in the store than it does in the website picture, and the pockets don't help slim that area either.

(AT did have a sort of abstract/animal print olive pencil skirt that looked pretty awesome on me though, but I thought I probably have too many skirts already so I didn't buy it.)

I don't know about the shape of this skirt on pears, but the fabric is gorgeous in person. It is a heavy weight cotton/silk blend. I was disappointed that the dress I ordered in this fabric didn't work out.

PS- I am an "apple". I had one skirt like this and I could never figure out how to style it. It always made me look huge in the middle

Hmm, when I've tried aline skirts in the past I tend to look fuller, such as this one. Although I never considered wearing them below the knee since I'm petite. That may have been my problem.

You could always order and try on...don't get discouraged...this type of skirt may work with your proportions....you never know till you put something on:) You can always send it back

I like the line of that first skirt you posted, Lisa, but the big pockets would probably not be helpful on a "pear"! (I still resist this thing of referring to our bodies as types of fruit.)

I hear you about the thighs. The pencil skirts that work on me tend to be straight, not tapered. I'm actually wider at the low hip and thigh, so anything that clings to the saddlebag area is not good on me.

I have to be feeling really good about my curves to wear a close-fitting skirt, so it's a look I save for high-confidence days.

I think you need to try it on. Sometimes the weight of the fabric makes a lot of diference.

That's a cute skirt, but having the gathers start right at the waistband makes it tricky if you have any curves at all.

I think skirts that are fitted through the hips then flare out are fab. Here's one from Talbots that does that, just to give you an idea:

I've seen your very pretty pear hot bod Lisa and I voted yay. You are petite and this skirt requires a flat stomach and tucked in top more than anything else. You satisfy the criteria so far!

And you fill out a pair of Joes Provacateurs like I have never seen before. Try the skirt!!!

Thanks everybody for chiming in. I'm going to check out my local AT tomorrow and see if they have the skirt. If not, I'll have to be patient and order it. I am certainly going to post pictures of this one. So...more to come!
