ankle boots/booties for dresses and skirts - I think I'm obsessing!!

So the taller version of my army green booties arrived and they don't quite hit the mark. I feel like a woman on a mission at this point lol. I really, really want them to be able to work with skirts and dresses. I like the RATE idea of canvas and some scuffing. But the skinny ankles are not to be ignored. I'm now thinking of these (pic 1), even though they aren't the army green I wanted.

For reference, the outfits I imagine for booties in pics 2 and 3. And the new taller version (unstyled!) in 4 that are going back.

Do I need a time out here or is #1 a viable option?

Thanks Una, close but yes, a tad too chunky - and tall. 3 1/2 on a sturdy heel is about it after the sprain. Maybe I need to give the taller green canvas ones a try with the dresses. They are a royal pain to get on. I thought immediately of all you Rory owners. And I can barely fit a sock with them for winter.

Well, to support one of your pet peeves, I see the heel height on these listed as anywhere between 3.25 and 4 inches, depending on the site! I thought they might be too chunky for you though.

Did you do a search on endless for green ankle boots? There are tons of them on there... You probably did already, but just in case.

I don't suppose they measure the ankles on boots, do they? I bet there are a zillion that will work style-wise, but you will have to try a lot to get the fit you want.

Rae, the Bronx were both with measurements! 12+ on the low booties and 10 1/2" on the taller ones. I needed the BF's shoehorn for those - especially on the still bigger sprained ankle. The faux snakeskin doesn't offer measurements though

Oh, how odd that the taller, slimmer-ankled ones don't have a zipper! Have you tried Ebay? You can make people measure whatever you want there.

I like #4 as well.
I think that the vamp in #1 is very tricky--more of a shootie and less of a bootie. Personally, I don't think this will give you the look you want.

I know that when I find myself becoming "obsessed" over an item (ordering, returning, etc.), I'm often best served by a self-imposed moratorium (unless I need the item for an immediately upcoming special event). So often I find that, in just a few weeks, I have changed my mind totally about even wanting the item or have stumbled across something that is perfect. I know you live in an area where lack of shopping opportunities makes "stumbling" less likely, but I'd still sit on this for awhile, especially if you don't plan to immediately integrate these into your day-to-day outfits.

I must not be seeing what all of you do! Somehow the taller ones in #4 seem too heavy for dresses and skirts to me - but then again I'm a total newbie at shorter, or ankle, boots with skirts.
I will hold on to them for now and try them with the skirt outfits tomorrow morning for review!

I like #4 too.

I've been keeping an eye out for a similar thing... but in a caramel color, which seems to have disappeared from all retailers. What's up with that?

I've all but given up, and am thinking of just going for taller boots in that color instead (I'm wearing the heck out of my tan cowboy boots and feel like I need an alternative in that color family). It's not easy to find the right balance of a casual but not too rugged vibe, the right height in the ankle, and the right height in the heel.

Janet, I know all too well the specifics you speak of! You might try looking up taupe - some sites seem to lump caramelish beige colors into the taupe category.

I said it in the other thread and I'll say it again here, love #4 ^^ Though I think you would probably get good use out of #1 as well. The overall silhouette with that one may not be as rugged as you want though.

Okay, here they are with the skirt and dress. I like them more than I thought I would! But they are a bit tight . . . and I know, from trying the shorter version, that the next size up is too big. So that leaves me with wearing them about the house for a day or two and see if they stretch or mold to my foot. If not, I'm afraid they have to go back because, cute or not, tight won't do. The up side is that I'm really, really starting to drool over the faux snakeskin shootie. I won't be sad to have to go with them as a back up option lol!

Well I'm not going to be any help because these outfits make me love this pair even more Though I do also love those shooties. I think they both have different uses *enable* 0:)

(But in seriousness, I actually do think this. The shooties to me are more of a cold weather pump stand-in where as the boots are, well, boots.)

Aida, thanks for sticking with me lol! I tried and just couldn't find these truly comfortable enough to hold on to. I do have ankle boots already. I really wanted booties - waaah. I wish the first, low, army green pair hadn't been so wide around the ankle I am sadly going to return these and go for the snakeskin shooties. I did also try these with a skinny jean and realized I could really neither tuck well nor put them over . . . kind of a weird middle ground that sealed the deal in returning. I want them for skirts but *have* to have them work with pants too.

Oh I see what you mean! That would definitely limit the versatility, and if they're ALSO not comfy? Send back and try the snakeskin pair! After seeing the outfits you've posted, that pair seems like it'll work much better for what you're envisioning.
