A skirt top for this winter

I said I'd ask some questions about specific items. Here is the first.

I like skirts, but don't think I need to add any to my wardrobe this winter. But I'd like a new skirt top that would update the look.

What I have in my mind as ideal would be a winter white turtleneck with ruched sleeve. But if I can't find one, or it doesn't work in practice, what type of tops would work with these skirts?

Anne, your denim and wool skirt pictures both show the same photo. How about a classic white button down (oxford) shirt? I think the style would look nice on you and it'd be very versatile. Do you have a cold winter? The pink skirt looks a little springy for cool weather.

Our winters are not cold by US standards. Wouldn't often go below 10 (50) in the daytime.

Just wanted to add that I am not really fond of buttondowns on myself (Can look great on others). I think it is my lack of bust to fill them out. Also I guess I was thinking of something that will take these skirts which I purchased 2 (the denim) and 6 years ago (the other two) and make them look "this year".

How about a cascading cardigan or a cardigan with ruched sleeves to wear with your skirts and a tee or turtleneck underneath?
I hope your little one is feeling better and that no one else catches"the bug"

How would you feel in a dressier version of your graphic tees, or a stripe top to wear with your wool and denim skirt?

Anne I'm useless when it comes to tops so sorry I can't help you much. I get desperate when top shopping and just go with whatever fits and doesn't look too ugh on me. I hate top shopping!

One skirt is a-line, and one is pencil shaped, is that right? I know I always prefer more fitted tops with a-line skirts to balance out the volume on the bottom half. I don't have much experience with pencil skirts but imagine that you can go with more volume up top there.

One top I have found that works with both my aline and pencil skirt is a knit top with a waist band. I got this from Target last year. Have you tried on something similar with your skirts?

Bad me never took a pic of it with my a-line skirt, but I wore it essentially like this (this is a banded top as well although its' difficult to see because it's so dark: http://www.flickr.com/photos/y.....225256166/

Anyway I'm no expert, that's just my rambly thoughts. I'll be interested to hear what others suggest though.

Anne I am hopeless with styling skirts too but have a squiz at Academichic website for some great styling options. Particularly like the look of the first one.
