A little while ago I decided it is time for a change in hair colour and made an appointment this morning to have my hair done. To make it a full on makeover I booked a makeup application at Sephora in the afternoon. (I had asked a while back about where to go for that sort of thing... http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....eup-tuneup)

Here's how it went down, in pictures:
#1: Before, with zero makeup and my bangs pulled back because they were way too long.
#2: During! I sent this to my husband. He replied that I needed more foil if I wanted to keep the government out of my brain.
#3: This is my finished colour. My stylist did lots of foils with very small sections of hair. I like the quantity and spacing of the highlights, but wonder if the tone is too yellow? He says it can be tuned a little if I want, I am going to live with it for a few days and see how I feel.
#4: Makeup: In this pic I am wearing Marc Jacobs lip gloss in "Boom Boom" (...radiant orchid) after admiring it on my friendly makeup artist.
#5: Makeup: This is my done face with a more natural coral-pink lip gloss.
#6: Back home, all done!

Regarding my Sephora experience, the makeup artist I saw was lovely! She asked me lots of questions about my current routine and preferences, offered a choice of products, and was very friendly and pleasant. She checked in at each step to ask if I liked the look and to explain techniques or answer my questions. She also took the time at the end to list the products she used and was not pushy in the least.

As far as the application, I think it looks nice in photos but is heavier than I would ever wear on a daily basis with 12 products in total. That count does not include the first lipg loss and counts all the shades of eye shadow as one product since they were from the same palette.

Products on my face:

  • Laura Mercier Original Primer
  • Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturizer
  • Laura Mercier Secret Camoflauge Concealer
  • Make Up Forever Lift Concealer
  • Anastasia brow pencil
  • Tarte Blush
  • Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powder
  • Urban Decay Naked3 Palette
  • Nars Larger Than Life Lipgloss
  • Urban Decay 24/7 Liner
  • YSL Babydoll Mascara
  • Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion
I went home with the mascara (a YLF rec!), eyeshadow primer, eyeliner, eyeshadow palette, and a replacement for the empty moisturizer that sent me to Sephora in the first place. (You know what causes you to run out of moisturizer faster? Your husband using it too!) I picked up some tips about application (blush: now 50% less scary than before!) and got to try some new things. Overall, I had a pretty fun day! Not Boston meetup fun, I'm sure, but still a good time.
