What I've shown is almost all of my "real" clothes, with the exception of about 25 pieces that are strictly cool fall/winter items (like cashmere sweaters). I could fit those pieces in my closet but I like to put things away when they are out of season as they seem more fresh to me when I bring them out again. Then there's formal/cocktail pieces, pajamas, coats, and bathing suits but those things obviously aren't for everyday wear!
With the 20 weekday outfits, I haven't repeated anything. I even included enough jeans to have a different pair for each Friday. (I'm sure that the difference in the jeans and my multiple pairs of black pants are probably only recognizable to me but that's ok!)
With the casual stuff, I have repeated because I am treating that as a capsule and just choosing from the limited number of tops and bottoms that I included.
My current 4 weeks run through August 10. At that point it is still really hot here and will be for a good part of September. So I think my next plan will be for the 6 week period from August 11 through September 21. I plan to choose 15 outfits and repeat each twice. For casual wear, I will stick with the capsule plan and will probably stick with most of the same pieces.
For the 15 work outfits, I will focus on the things that are more summery. I will use some of the items that didn't get used for this 4 weeks plus repeat some that did, especially those that are lighter weight or short-sleeved.
I still like the idea of putting together outfits, based on my favorite one or two ways to wear something. I would rather repeat something I really like than change something just so that it's worn a different way...I guess I'm just not all that creative! And I love how easy it is to get dressed in the morning. Plus I still get some choice each day when I pick my shoes and bag.
I feel planning outfits is giving me a good sense of how large a wardrobe I really need based on how often I am comfortable repeating. (And based on photos of what is being worn in a month's time!) It will be interesting to see if I can happily repeat after 3 weeks or if I am more comfortable after 4.
Thanks for humoring me!
