4-in-1: Diwali, BR pants, K/R sweater and WIW today

First picture is from our Diwali celebration! This is an old outfit and a pastel, but I like it for festive occasions.

Second up: the BR trousers Angie recommended. This is size up and in a short length, as BR petites do not work for me. They are a little slouchy but not overly so. Are they too "regular" on me? They need to be hemmed and for now are folded under.

Next, a really cozy Gap sweater I picked up on sale. I don't have any sweaters in this length and felt it would be better with some of my slouchy pants. But is is too IT emphasizing?

And last, WIW today. I found this oversized tunic sweatshirt at ON on supersale and it is the perfect weekend wear for basketball games and dog-walking.

All feedback welcome! And no emotions vested in the new items, just practicality and fit.

Hmmm: I don't think the sweater is IT emphasizing w the wool trousers but it looks a bit more so w the jeans. Not overly so, but you definitely have a strong shoulderline in 4. Depends on if that bothers you or not I suppose. I'll leave others to decide on the trousers; I love all grey wool clothes, and therefore cannot possibly be objective, hehe. The new ON sweater looks great on you & #1 is so festive! That's a great silhouette on you too.

E, thanks for using the word 'strong" which I so prefer to 'big". I see that too and I don't know if it's bad or just is. Appreciate the input!

Haha, as another strong shouldered woman, I prefer that adjective too. I definitely don't think it's bad, although not as traditionally flattering as 5. I wonder if that's the extra length of the ON sweater or its more fluid fabric or both. Hmmm. Have you tried the Gap sweater over some of your dresses or with your skirts? I bet it'd look good with them. Also, I love the kitty accessory in 3/4. A perfect match for the Gap sweater. hehe

I think if you uncross your legs it would look more balanced with the jeans.

A/your strong shoulder-line is an advantage imo. I love the look You look great in all these Una - the pants look good to me, as do the knits.

Love the color of the Diwali outfit, love the pants, am sort of meh about the first sweater - more the length than the strong shoulders, which don't both me, but do love you in tunic sweatshirt.

I LOVE that Gap sweater on you, and would die to have that shoulder line. Well, maybe not die, but perhaps pull out my shoulder pads from back in the day to get my sweaters to look that good.

BTW, my DD in India LOVES being there during Diwali. Her professor (in Pune) said she could pass for being from northeast India (she looks more Filipina than Japanese) so when asked by cab drivers and the like she will sometimes tell them she's from NE India and that's why her Marathi is so bad. She's a kid who likes to mess with people's minds. The things she'll say with a perfectly straight face!!! Looks like she's going to have something made for me per your suggestion. I told her to emphasize to the tailor that she and I have totally opposite body types despite being similar in height and weight.

The Diwali outfit is so pretty on you! Love the colors and the sumptuous fabrics.
I like the sweater with the jeans but less so with the trousers. The outfit doesn't look characteristic of your style--too, um, I'm trying to think of a nice way to say boring. I'm not sure I like the slouchy trousers with the length of the sweater, with this fluid fit. I do like the pieces on their own--the trousers look like a nice drapey fit.
The outfit does appeal to me a little more in your second "Una" pose, so it may just be the stance or camera angle. Or perhaps the color. I think I'd like a darker sweater better with the pants.

I really love the sweaters on you. I don't think they emphasize your shoulders in a bad way. I find them flattering on you.

I am not so sure about the wool pants. I wonder if these pants are supposed to be on the tailored side of fluid IYKWIM? I wonder how your regular size would look. Did you get a chance to try?

Hmm, I think both the pants and the sweater are going back. The pants are a lovely quality, but they don't look much different to or on me than the work pants of the 90s - conservative and a little stodgy. BR rarely works for me, so I'm sure some of you will rock these as Angie intended!

FWIW, we need to compare apples with apples: I think you need to size down on the pants, if you think it's worth the effort. They have lost their oomph because there is no shape to cling onto. You are already narrow hipped Una, so a smaller size will probably be better - as will a longer hem length, and exposing the waistband on the trousers. Those details will make quite a difference.

The jumper is addable with the jeans.

The pants are nice, but well... a bit staid. Perhaps they would look better with a colorful top, heels, a blazer, etc. I have a huge issue with dress pants myself, though, and usually gravitate towards more colorful and non-trouser cut bottoms.

The Gap sweater and ON top look great. I don't mind s strong shoulder line (wish I had one!). Happy Diwali, you look festive and fab in that outfit!

The tunic sweatshirt looks cute and comfy. No strong opinions either way on the sweater and the pants, but it sounds like you've come to a decision already anyway.

Angie, that makes sense. However, these are comfortable in the waist, so sizing down will probably cause different issues. Sadly, I just don't find BR to work for me - they seem tailor-made for slim hourglass/rectangles with a defined or narrow waist. On me, the hips and thighs are big when the waist fits. It's too bad because the trousers are lovely!

Too bad about the BR pants, but sometimes brands just don't work - my sister can't wear JCrew. Their clothes just don't fit her body shape. I love the tunic sweater in the last photo.
