Wearing relaxed tops with full skirts is one of my favourite outfit combinations at the moment because the proportions feel fresh, modern and new. My clients are generally excited about the look because it’s comfortable and easy to put together. A looser top also dresses down a full skirt, which makes it more versatile.

Silky track pants are trousers made of dressier woven fabrications that are cut like fleece sweat pants or “track pants”. They are NOT made of knitted jersey. They usually have an elastic waistband and drawstring, are tapered at the ankle, and are roomy right through the leg. Some of the hems are cuffed, or have zipper and elastic detailing. The style drapes well, and is attractive in patterns and solids. The baggy fit is about relaxed comfort and a small amount of slouch.

2012 was the year for colour and pattern. For the first time in ages, retail gave us an excellent assortment of colours. Delicate pastels, blinding brights, mild mid-tones, rich jewel tones, warm earth tones and all sorts of versatile neutrals. 2013 continues to showcase a vast assortment of colour and I couldn’t be happier about it. There is something for everyone, and long may it last.

In my Spring 2013 colour forecast I suggested that white is the colour of the season, closely followed by blue. Note that by white I mean all shades of white. From optical white, off-white and bone, to oyster, cream and stone.

Baggy and slouchy trousers started appearing on runway shows in 2008. I remember talking with fashion stylist and author Kendall Farr about the “new soft drapey pant” when I first interviewed her in 2009, and she was as excited about the new silhouette as I was. We both enjoy ’80s inspired fashion and for me in particular, there was once again a trouser style that was my cup of tea.
