Which skirt for funeral attire?

Which skirt should I wear for the funeral next week? The jacket is new, I didn't want to wear my knit blazer so I went to look for a black blazer/jacket yesterday. There isn't really much black available at the moment, but I had luck at H&M. Does it look alright? I thought it was the best from the bunch I tried on.

My first thought was to go with my black skirt, but then I thought that it was maybe a bit too short (it ends just over my knees). The other option would be my green midi skirt.

What do you think? And are the shoes alright? I don't have any black shoes, only my black boots and it's too warm for them. I could try to find some black or grey ballet flats or loafers if you think that would be better.

First of all, I'm sorry for your loss, Astrid.

I like the first outfit better. The skirt is not long but you are wearing with dark tights so it shouldn't matter that much. It's not that short anyways.

I think the shoes are ok, though I believe it's always good to own a good pair of black ballet flats (or loafers, if you rather).

I would go with the black skirt. Yes, it is a bit shorter than the green one, but I think with the black tights and all it looks more appropiate. At least to me.
With regard to the shoes: I think the brown ones could be ok "wenn es sein muss" but black or grey ones would be better. Whats your size? And could you walk in heels at the funeral?

Thank you, Lemonade. It's good to hear that the skirt length is alright, because I also like it better with the black skirt. I think I will have a look for some black shoes Monday or Tuesday, but if I don't find a comfortable pair, these will have to do.

Thanks Anja. Another vote for the black skirt, that's good. My shoe size is 38, but I have very wide feet and it's difficult to find shoes that fit and are comfortable. I never wear heels, so I wouldn't want to start now.

you will look most appropriate in the black skirt. do you have any lower contrast shoes? even in a dark green?

Astrid, once again, i am so sorry for your loss.

I would wear the black skirt. You are young, and wearing it with tights, so it does not look at all inappropriate. The jacket also looks just fine.

As for footwear, perhaps ideally you would have a darker shoe. But what would be most important to your grandmother, and what is most important to your parents? I think they want you there more than they want you to look perfect. I would not worry about this unless you feel it would be disrespectful to your grandmother's memory.

Thanks bj1111. I unfortunately don't have any other shoes I could wear, I have some serious wardrobe holes in the shoe departement. So another pair of darker shoes (black, grey, dark green or navy) wouldn't be a bad idea.

Thank you Suz. I will go with the black skirt then. I think I'll feel better wearing it, now that I know the length is alright. And you're right, my shoes don't matter at all when I think about it that way.

You have been given great advice so all I can add is that with the appropriate outfit sorted out you will be able to just be with your family and give and receive the love and comfort you all need right now. Take care of yourself.

Astrid, I really like the first outfit and the blazer that you picked up looks like it will be a great and versatile piece. As others said, a darker flat or pump is a great basic to add to your wardrobe, but I certainly think these loafers will be fine. At the last funeral I went to, I wore a charcoal gray dress and cardigan with smoke gray pumps and didn't look out of place - there were some people who chose to wear clothes I wouldn't have thought of wearing to a funeral, such as 4" heels or an above knee length dress.

You look very appropriate in the black skirt and the new jacket fits very well. Go with the brown shoes and no worries about anything but spending time with your family now.

I wouldn't worry too much about the shoes, unless you have time to shop for black flats. The outfit in #1 looks pretty appropriate for the funeral.

I'm so sorry for the sad occasion Astrid.

Your new jacket looks perfect, and I like the all-black effect with the black skirt. Perfect with the black tights, and I actually think the brown oxfords look very young and fresh paired with black. Sort of unexpected, but still muted and somber enough for a funeral. Safe travels!

Thanks Kari. That's true, some people wear the strangest things. I'm definitely dressed alright with the first outfit, I think my family will be similarly dressy. The only exception being the smaller children.
