The Frye Carson Shorties in Taupe that I ordered from last week's awesome 6pm sale have arrived... I love them and find them super comfy, and am almost certainly keeping them, but I did want to ask for opinions regarding the gapping at the top. There is quite a lot of room in the shaft/ankle area (true for most boots on me), and they look fine from the front and side (photo 1) but I can see the top of my foot when I look down (photo 2). Now, I realize that nobody is going to be looking down into my boots from this angle, but it still bugs me a little bit.

My DV storm boots are just as gappy, if not even more, but for some reason that doesn't bug me since they are also floppier. They cowboy styling of the Fryes means that the extra space sticks out in front...

So... what do you all think? Is the extreme gappiness just in my head? If I wear ankle length socks inside, will it look weird (boots w/o socks is NOT an option for me). I'd love to be able to wear these under skirts and dresses as long as the gaping is not too distracting. In any case, they will be fine with pants.
