Just bought a vintage powder compact

Didn't know if this should go in off topic or not, please move if so.

I just bought myself a vintage kigu convertible compact from mercari. Made in England. I think its a 617 series made between 1977-1979.
This one looks like its in good condition with all original pieces.
Anyone else into vintage compacts? This is my first one, just got a relatively cheap one to start me off (though I only really need two in total so I don't suppose i'll be going crazy with them...at least I hope not).

Those are pretty. I have a couple of my mom’s, which I believe date back to the 70s and earlier.

What an interesting concept, I've never seen or heard this. So how does it work? Do you put your own compact powder in it? Can you fill it up and use it again and again? Do you use the powder puff? I would assume that it would get dirty and cannot be used again. Pretty box!

Bella, yes you fill it up with your own ppwder though only specific brands work, the pan has to be 67mm. The most common is Max Factor creme puff. I think though perhaps the Jane Iredale ones are 67mm pans. Though you can also get loose powder compacts and use whatever brand of loose powder you want. The one I've got is for either loose or pressed. If I can't find a pressed one that fits, will have to use it for loose. The puff hasn't been used but its probably deteriorated over the years so i'll buy a new one if my Jane iredale refill doesn't come with one. They used to but maybe they've stopped that now. I don't think i'll actually use the puff for application mind, just to pop over the powder to protect the mirror.

N, cool! I like the gold one. I just got this. It’s not vintage and I doubt it’s secure enough to hold powder, but one of the mirrors magnifies.

Very pretty. I have a couple of Art Deco ones from the 1920s that I bought many years ago, one in New York, one at a Deco show in DC. I never put powder in them, but carried them in my purse to use for their mirror.

The pictures are just of one compact but show the back and the front and inside. I'm excited for it to arrive. I hope I don't start collecting them haha. I just want one or two to actually use.

Very pretty! My mom had one in her purse all the time to "take the shine off."

My sister bought me a beautiful Estee Lauder compact with my Zodiac sign on it (in the 90's) - though I rarely use it - too pretty to scratch up in my bag!

But I admit I expected something Art Deco or Art Nouveau when I saw "Vintage" - so the 70's are vintage now

Haha yes 70s are vintage to the Millennials (me) and even the 90s are to the Gen Zs (the youngsters)

Managed to pop in my elate powder (came just as the pan) and its a bit loose as it is meant for 67mm pans ideally but this one can take from 59mm-67mm I think. So i'll use my current powder up and then look for one in a slightly bigger pan next. I think the ones here in Japan all come in bigger pans anyway so shouldn't be too difficult.

I love the idea of collecting vintage compacts, but I am going to resist. There are some beautiful ones. Yours looks very pretty.
