Angie

How about these in gray for me? I normally wear a 10 and they do not have a 10.5 so should I get an 11?

thanks!

Exciting to find these! I saw this look all over europe so my eye does not need adjusting this time!

I fear I am too old for these at 55years. I would be afraid that I would end up at a party wearing the same thing as my 13 year old grand daughter. I did wear the look in the '80's.
Hope all of you younger ladies enjoy the look. The pictures you have shown look fabulous!!!

MariannaCecile -- I saw the ones you got in black at Nordies. They are really cute! I didn't try them on thought because I was looking for a leather instead of a suede boot. I hope one of the pairs works out for you!

San, I saw women our age all over Europe wearing boots like these but let's check with Angie to make sure!

Last thing I want to do is look like I dress like my teen daughters!

I tried these boots on AGAIN at the store this morning. They are best kept NAS secret so far. Tucking is SO EASY. You HAVE to scrunch them down. I was wearing skinnies with scrunched ankles and these boots scrunched around the scrunching without me having to do anything. So you had volume under volume. They look KILLER that way. IMO anyway. I think you can wear these with straight legs too. Possibly slim bootcuts as well. Cathy, could you take a picture and scrunch your boots down for us? The secret is to NOT pull them up.

o Marianna – I tried on the suede boot you purchased and they are sweet too. But I think the volume of the Star Ling is more flattering for us all. Glad you ordered them!

o Patience, I think you can pull off something A-line or voluminous with these boots. I intend to do both sleek and voluminous looks.

o Boof, your smart wool socks will act like leg warmers and achieve the perfect scrunch. (Hah! You just gave me an idea. I want to wear leg warmers with these boots). And I like the sound of your outfit.

o Happy belated birthday, Donna! You are on the right track too. I *think* the boots that Julie posted have heels, which are a slightly different animal.

o There is not a height challenge with these boots. Cathy is petite and pulls off the boots perfectly. AND, you can scrunch them down.

o Debbie – I’d get black, and try an 11 so that you can put your orthotics in. I think you’ll like them.

o San – these are age appropriate imo and you know how opinionated I am when it comes to age appropriate dressing (and I’ll happily take the abuse that is fired my way I might add). They are fairly plain which is a plus. I’m not saying that you have to get them, just assuring you that you *could* wear them if you wanted to.

Maya, I know they are not within your budget, but I think your feet would love these boots. I hope that doesn't make you feel worse. I am trying to help. I know how hard shoes are for you.

Oh my I think you have talked me into trying them. I love nothing more than a best kept secret.
Could I get away with wearing them with the new Theory kint pants I have ordered?
Should I get black to match the color of the pants for a long line?
Or chestnut to go with black?
Thanks Angie.

Oh, I totally think you can pull it off, san!

And here's the scrunch version (the boots kept popping up a bit, but I can see how the leather would soften up and stay down):

They are super cute on you Cathy. They fit your style perfectly! I love it!

Oh, I couldn't resist. I ordered them and will try it out.

Angie - sorry, another sizing question! I typically wear between 7/7.5 should I go with the 7.5 or 8? (The 7.5 has more colors online! )

Thanks!

Lori

I couldn't resist either. I ended up with them in black. The black was really speaking to me (I do have several grey tops and grey DMs already) and besides by my sleuthing there are no more than 2 grey size 8s left in the country, if that. But I can't make them stay scrunched. Maybe that will happen with time and maybe it works better with skinnies tucked? I was wearing a dress today when I tried them. I really like the look but it would be even better if they were a bit more slouched. Any tips?

Thanks, Cathy! You are a star :0) - you look great!

Lori, order both sizes. Sorry :0( If you are in-between sizes already, it’s tricky offering a solution.

Patience, I ordered the black as well. The black spoke to me too.

TIP: Keep rubber bands around the boots when you are NOT wearing them (when they rest). That way you’ll encourage the slouch. They are so soft. The slouch will become more permanent over time. Also, as I said further up the thread, they scrunch well WITH scrunched skinnies.

It's okay Angie. Actually, my feet are pretty tolerant as far as boots go, so I don't feel too bad. Also, I got my EM boots towards the end of winter so I didn't get much of a chance to wear them around a lot. They still feel brand new and I'm as excited to get into them in September as I was in March! It's flats and pumps that trip me up. I did a little shoe "shopping" (trying things on without buying them) today at the Walking Company and found some possibilities.

Lori, I'm a 7-7.5 and got a size 8. The 7.5 just fit, but wouldn't have been comfortable with socks.

Angie -- great tip with the rubber bands! I'll give that a shot.

It's so cool everyone is getting in to this boot! I can't wait to see how you all wear them.

Sadly, I heard the same thing as Patience about the grey ones. Must be YLF lurkers! I tried them in black in the store today. I was wearing clams and liked the look - felt very HK I'd probably never wear them like that in our weather. I passed though, because I still prefer the grey, which is what caught my eye earlier. Black looked good, too, but I already wear a ton of black. OTOH, I wear a lot of grey too, so maybe I should go for cognac...

I guess I need precise instructions. Angie, do you mean to put one rubber band on each boot at about the ankle level?

Marianne, would an 8.5 be too big? It might be easier to locate that size since they had all colors online just yesteday. What if you wore socks?

I succumbed and ordered the black since these are starting to look like the YLF boot for fall. Since those Brulees were essential to my existence this summer, I figured it would be a big mistake to miss out on these!

Hmmm. Patience, scrunch down the ankle part (flatten it) and pop a few bands around the opening and the sole of the shoe. (The boot is not on your foot).

Marianne, imo there was virtually no difference between the black and the grey. It’s such a DARK grey. Cognac is good! Out of your box (black is really out of my box). I’m pushing this boot because I think it’s KILLER all round. That look, quality, edge, ease and comfort at the price is unbelievable. It’s almost too good to be true. And you can put in an orthotic.

Maya, glad to hear you have more shoe options as the weather gets colder. Your new EM boots are KILLER. That would have been my first choice if they were long enough for me.

You're such an enabler, Angie.

I just ordered these in the cognac - they are back-ordered until 8/26, but that doesn't matter since I won't be wearing them in this heat. I also went ahead and ordered the raisin Brahmin bag too.

Patience, I do need 8.5 in these - they only had 8 in the store and it was squishing my toes. Angie, grey does look pretty dark on the site but for some reason I thought it was lighter in person. I guess black ones also have enough "texture" that they would work in a monochromatic scheme.
Shiny, that's interesting about backordering - did you order online?

Just ordered mine in an 11 in black! can't wait to try them.

Well, I wasn't planning on getting more boots, and I just pulled the trigger on cognac ones. It will be fun to try them on in any case.

Maybe we'll see a blog post about wearing this boot shape in the future?

I decided to go with cognac! I saw them in the store today and liked the color, but I had to order my size. I will post pictures when they come. I've been feeling a bit confused about my fall look, so hopefully these will help to spice it up a little.

Angie - Thank you for the birthday wishes!

I ordered a pair in grey and am excited to see if they will work. I hope you'll be able to do a post on these since there is so much interest on the forum. It sounds like many of us would like the extra help with styling ideas and of course we all love it when you post your own pictures!

Wow. Loads of takers. Enabler Angie.

Sure, Donna. I'll plan a personally modeled post in late August. (Our readership is focused on Summer dressing at the moment so I don't want to do it too soon).

There will be ensemble and body type variables to consider though, and these variables may be different for different people. I’m sure all of you will get your heads around these boots though, as long as your eye has adapted to the look. That will be the tricky part. First I need to actually get these boots! Still waiting….

Wow these boots are cute!!! So for those who have sucuumbed, what's the verdict on how big these run?? I'm a 9.5-10 normally, but there are sold out in grey in 10s. Size 11s are available though.....but if I size up that much will my feet be swimming???

Size 10 is available in cognac, but I already have brown scrunchy boots. Maybe this is a very good reason why I shouldn't be looking at these boots!!!

Angie, is this look flattering when you have thicker/athletic legs? I'm just trying to envision it on me. The idea of easier tucking with skinnies is SUPER appealing to me right now. I love the cognac. I'm a 7 but will try a 7.5.

I'd try the 11, Tam.

Sarah, I do not see a challenge. Go for it.
