Electric toothbrushes - Two part question

This is a two part question:

Part 1) What kind of electric toothbrush do you have, and do you like it?

Part 2) Do you and you SO share a unit? I don't mean the brush head, that would be gross. I mean the motor part that the brush head snaps onto.

We had an Oral B electric toothbrush that died. It had been recommended by the dental hygienist. I have a new hygienist who recommends the ultrasonic type of toothbrush.

I was looking at them at Bed Bath & Beyond, and was talking to a clerk there. I asked where do you store the brush head so the other person can use it. She looked kind of horrified. My husband and I share the unit, but use separate brush heads, obviously. Is this strange?

Abc, do you and your husband use the same unit or a separate one? At Costco, they sell them in pairs.

We have SonicCare ones here and we each have our own complete unit. My husband decided to be super thoughtful and give them to my DD and I for Christmas and bought the Costco double pack. He has had one for years and figured he'd share his good fortune with the rest of the world . Next year I expect a snow shovel.

I can't imagine fussing around changing heads between users. This way, they all stand up in a nice little row

Lisa, I hope you get snow shovel of your dreams! Our Oral B had a storage place for four brushes. They were pretty easy to pop on and off, and we did for years. But the storage thing got kind of gross. I used my Waterpik to blast it out whenever I thought of it. We only have four plugs at the sink: radio, toothbrush, waterpik, hairdryer/curling iron.

I saw the two packs at Costco and assumed they were for separate bathrooms.

Nothing strange at all, except for her horrified look! DH and I used to share one unit with our own separate brush heads. Then he bought another unit to use in our travels and now he uses that and I use the original one. They are both B Braun and we like them very much. (I don't ever want to go back to manual. Kind of like tongue scraping, once you start... )

We have two units,, but when we travel we just take one unit and our two individual heads. It's not like the body is getting shoved in your mouth! (I mean, if it is, you're probably doing it wrong ). I forget exactly which one I have, but it's got an "extended" mode that adds some rougher massage motion for gums which I just looooove. So it does the usual 4x30 seconds periods, but at the end of each adds 15 seconds of massage. Highly recommend!

I had an excellent dentist (now retired). He said SonicCare was the only one that really made a difference from regular brushing by hand.

We have the ones from Cosco and the the results have been praised by the dentist. DH and I each have our own. I often run the holder through the dish washer...top rack. What if one of you goes on a trip without the other?

Joy, is your Sonicare, too? What model, do you know? Before our old one died, we took manual toothbrushes on trips.

I have a Sonicare unit. I love it. I am on my third. DH has a different type. We don't share units. But we would never be able to agree on anything as personal as an electric toothbrush. We also have separate bathrooms.
I take mine with me when I travel. I have a travelling case for it.

We got an electric one years ago, intending to share the base and have our own heads. But I don't think my husband ever bothered. I know it gives me a much better result than a manual toothbrush, but I might look into a sonic one when I need to replace.
I have a battery powered toothbrush in my travel bag. No cords to worry about.

SF, do you remember which model you have? Actually, Costco only has one model with a travel case.

First off, why is it strange to share the same unit? We do that too. It's not like you're using the same toothbrush head. We also share the shampoo, and the floss, and the fingernail clippers.

I personally prefer Sonicare to OralB. I've had both, but Sonicare seems to do a better job -- and mine has lasted for nearly a decade. I'm surprised we can still get toothbrush heads to fit!

I think we're going to get a Sonicare at Costco when we can get there.

Sonicare for me as well. No sharing.- we each have our own. My dentist recommended the diamond head brushes. I highly recommend! My teeth get much cleaner.

Sarah, thanks. As I said the new hygienist recommended Sonicare. We had had the Oral B for years and years. Maybe it was before Sonicare was invented? Who knows?

They sell Sonicare in pairs at Costco. I think we'll put one of them away for later.

Thanks, Aida, that looks like the one(s) we bought at Costco yesterday! We are planning to use one (with separate brush heads, of course). I hope this doesn't gross out too many people. I used it last night and again this morning, and it reminds me of the dentist's drill. A woman looking at brush heads at Costco said her hygienist said she had a lot less tartar after using it. So fingers crossed..

JAileen, I meant to include in my reply that that's why they make those little colored bands to put on the bottom of the heads. I used to try to match our eye colors so that he wouldn't forget which one was his!

lisap, my dentally conscious dad inadvertently started a tradition of giving us electric toothbrush sets at some point... Now when mine wears out, as they do eventually, I ask for a new one for Christmas
Maybe the sales person just hadn't really thought it out and just thought "shared toothbrush, gross"? I once had to explain to a friend that using the *spray* deodorant my gym had around for emergencies wasn't really that gross (are you all thinking eww gross now?). The model we have right now has a little covered tray to hold other brushes, but I could see right away it would be a dust magnet, and it is, with little nooks/crannies that require something like a Qtip to clean them. Trying to remember to close the lid Overall I prefer to keep the heads standing up in something like a glass or maybe Qtip holder.

Jules, our old Oral B had built in vertical storage for four brush heads. It got quite gunky in there. I would use a Q tip or my waterpik to blast the gunk out.

Sorry I just checked back. I don't know the model. It came with the travel case. I like that. Keeps it clean when I travel. I go away a lot.
