“How to correctly fit a bra?”, “Am I wearing the right size bra?”, “Where to go for a bra fitting?”… Bra issues come up time and again on the YLF forum, and the topic is clearly not just on the minds of our forum members:

It was actually back in October when I was invited to a Wacoal launch event here in Houston. Their fit specialist showed me everything that was wrong with the current bras I was wearing, and then she gave me one that fit perfectly and I immediately felt and saw a difference! I’ve been buying Wacoal bras since! I also asked questions about how long should one keep a bra, how often should one was it, etc….I love their bras and the fit they found for me is great!

After having a baby and fluctuating sizes, I know that is very important to have a correct fitting bra to look and feel great!

i have only just recently realized how important this and am slowly making an effort to replace my old ones with better fitting ones. it is hard to find good fitting ones though!

I got fitted at Nordstrom a month or so ago and bought several bras. I was a totally different size than I thought I was! it definitely helps to wear well-fitting bras!

maybe 5 or so years ago I started paying more attention to the right fit for those under shoulder boulder holders. it definitely makes me feel more confident!

A couple years ago after hearing over and over that most women were wearing an incorrect bra size and firmly confident that *I* was not in this huge majority, I caved and went to Nordstrom for a bra fitting. I was shocked to discover that I was indeed wearing the incorrect bra size. I am amazed at how much better I look wearing the correct size!

I can’t remember exactly when I started paying attention to fit, definitely around the past year as I’ve gotten conscious of my clothes and style choices and started paying more attention to the silhouettes I want to create (and not break with a bad fitting bra)

I do have an experience where there’s a certain dress, it’s perfect. The color sets of my skin well, the fabric frames my body so that it’s all smooth lines with no bumps or breaks, and it just shows off me in a way I reaally like. The only issue is I don’t have any bra I can wear with it without 5-8 safety pins due to the v-neck and the low back (it’s a party dress) of the dress….

A few years ago, after gaining some weight and having some hormonal fluctuations, I began to notice that my breasts were no longer fitting right into my bra cups (my size had not changed prior to that since high school!) and were giving me “quad-boob”. Once I went up a cup size, I was amazed at how much better it looked (and obviously it was a lot more comfy too).

I started paying attention to good bra fit when I was in my mid-teens, entirely because of my mom. She was full-sized. A well-fitted bra is much more comfortable to wear, not to mention more flattering. The tragic side for me is that I won’t buy something that doesn’t fit perfectly, even if it’s the cutest style in the universe.

I started paying attention about a year ago, after reading a post on this site and then eventually Maya’s very wonderfully detailed tips. I got fitted at a local boutique shop. My size was nowhere near what I had been buying. The support was much better, and my clothes also looked better on me. I had to warm up to the associated price tags, but it has been well worth the investment!

After getting fitted in a Wacoal bra at Nordstrom a number of years ago, I have stuck with the brand and location, because I don’t want to “feel” my bra and want soft, quality fabric next to my skin. I also felt like I had a pretty good fitting there, too.

I used to wear underwire bras, and then after having breast cancer surgery, I decided to stay with Wacoal, but forgo the underwire. Now, the “girls” are dealing with gravity and it’s time to buy bras again and I need some type of “lift,” but I’m not quite sure what I need, and may want to reconsider underwire again or whatever will give me the best look in clothing. Still, I want comfort, first and foremost, so this book may be handy for my next bra purchase, which I desperately need. I love it that there are “two” copies available. That’s cute.

I think I started worrying about a good fit as I got older. Fortunately I was “perky” when young, so what’s the worry – bad thought! I was a late bloomer, so to speak and needed the support as I got older. So it’s fit and comfort I’m always searching for. That’s for having this contest also. Even if I don’t win, it sounds like a terrific book to read and refer to.

I am not built like my mother and wore the wrong size from my teenage years until present day. I am significantly bustier than her and I think it never crossed her mind. (was very embarrassing growing up :). )

About two months ago, I took myself to a specialty lingerie store and was shocked at my size…however, I loom like I lost 10lbs as I am now wearing the perfect size for me (which cannot be bought in a dept store). I think it is the best money I ever spent

A couple of years ago (or maybe more) I think it was Oprah who did a show on bra fit, and I learned that most people are wearing the band too big and the cup too small. I took myself to Victoria’s Secret and got measured, then tried on, like, a million bras in the size they told me I should wear, plus a few sizes on either side of that size. Ended up changing 40 C’s for 36 DD’s and have never looked back! It makes a HUGE difference!!

I never used to wear a bra – I didn’t grow up in a culture where that is seen as a “rite of passage”. I then moved to another country and took a job in a clothes shop where the other employees gave me comments and sideways looks for not wearing a bra, and I reluctantly bought one.

It didn’t occur to me then that buying and wearing the right bra could make a big difference to the fit of your clothes and to your figure. I don’t know when I realised that, but it was part of becoming more interested in style generally, taking care of my body and wanting to present myself in the best way possible. I’m lucky in that there’s a lingerie shop where I live locally, and I go there once a year or so to get fitted for a new bra.

I’m still struggling to find the right fit for me. I’ve always thought that bra fit was important. I always thought that I had stayed the same size since high school and never noticed my poor fit until recently. Instead of having the telltale quad boob or front underwire problems, I was pushing breast tissue out of the cup under my arm and my band never rode up– it actually rode down.

This is an issue close to my heart if you’ll excuse the pun! I have always been gusty, and have known since my teenage years how important a well-fitting bra is. However, it has taken until the last few years to be able to pinpoint what that entails and to find salespeople who knew what they were doing and resist those who don’t.

I realized that a bra made a huge difference after I went to MyIntimacy to get fitted for a nursing bra. I was nursing my 2nd son and the girls needed a little help It was amazing what a good fitting bra (and sexy, too) could do for a sleep deprived mommy!

After loosing a bunch of weight I went for a professional fitting in Toronto at Melmira. I could not believe the difference. A great fitting bra is worth every penny! I think it’s time ti book another appointment…

My bra size changed dramatically when I gained over 70 lbs while pregnant and then lost over 80 within months. I was wearing anything from a 36D to a 34B. I stopped in at a specialty store to be fitted and was actually a 32E. What a difference the right bra makes to the silhouette of clothing and confidence. Not only do I buy properly fitting bras now, but most of my swimwear is made by the bra manufacturers too.

I’ve started paying attention since being pregnant and nursing (and therefore having to reassess my size multiple times), and also since coming to YLF. Now that I’ve finished nursing for the last time, I need to figure out my size yet again!

After reading Maya’s informative thread on YLF, I went to a local lingerie shop. Sure enough, I was in the wrong size (too big a band, too small a cup)….The correct size makes all the difference!
