YLF Challenge Chain: Marianne challenges Laura65 to...

Hi Laura, I got your number from the random number generator. Like Shiny, I thought you would be difficult to challenge - you are very enthusiastic about new trends and it seems you have tried everything and always made it work for you. I love your urban sophisticated style. You are also often attracted to bold avant-garde designs and I would not dare to set my foot in that area. I've seen you sport so many different looks with great style, so I just came up with a list of things of which I would be curious to see your interpretation. You can pick one (or more if you're motivated :) ).

1) menswear inspired outfit - I don't think I've seen you in anything like that
2) 60s retro (this may have occurred to me because of your sleek haircut)
3) naughty secretary
4) boho look (I remember you were interested in it earlier this season, and I am just throwing it in as an easy cop-out... but no denim!)

I hope it sounds reasonable! If not, let me know and I'll rework it.

Marianne, you make me laugh -- "naughty secretary" -- ha! I also love the retro 60s suggestion ... hmmmm ... okay, challenge accepted.

Thank you for the kind words. You've made me feel encouraged that I can pull off one of these challenges. I *do* love to try new things, so off I go to my closet!

Wow Laura, super duper awesome! LOVE the last outfit, the tunic+skinnies+moto jacket is simply da bomb. I think you captured all the options Marianne gave you: boho, menswear inspired, 60's retro and naughty secretary (with the hint of cleavage through the gorgeous neckline on the gorgeous tunic (dress?) )

Absolutely amazing! I was just going to post something apologetic about the challenge :)
The print is awesome, where is it from? And your close-up is so cute! And I am with Niva, it looks great with jeans and moto jacket, but the first picture leaves me speechless! You totally have that look from "Blow-Up" or something like that.

Fantastic! Very Jean Seberg!

Oh! I love it with the leggings! What kind of shoes are those? They are adorable!!

I thought I was going to skip the longer leggings this time around with this trend , and just stick to the cropped version, but seeing these on you .... oh, stop tempting me!!!

Love it, love it, love it. The tunic with the jeans and moto jacket is simple awesome.

Perfect!! I love the hair and makeup!! What a great tunic, you really rocked the challenge!!

Marianne, I should thank you - this was soooo much fun! I researched Twiggy and got inspired ... I gobbed on the mascara on both lids, black eyeliner, and pale pink lip gloss. Then I gave myself a side part and slicked the hair down. The dress is Forever 21! I think it cost under $20.

Shiny, the shoes are ancient, probably 10 years old, by Joan & David. They are a rounded square toe, which maybe is a little dated? You should definitely try full-length leggings. I was wishing mine were stirrups!

Yes! Exactly! I thought of Twiggy when I saw your second picture!

Wow! You look absolutely smashing! I love your dress, and I think you captured the mod perfectly! I also love it with jeans, though this is less mod, perhaps? I thought the first picture is the most "moddish" one.

LOVE LOVE LOVE! Groovy baby love! *g*

The dress is fab, the cleavage is sexy, and the slicked-back hair is icing on the cake. Very well done!

wow, you are HOT!!! Well done!

Twiggy never had cleavage like that in her wildest dreams! Marianne said it with "Blowup". You've got the look.

KILLER. Absolutely K-I-L-L-E-R. And may I add ooooh la la! WELL DONE Laura! You look beautiful. Hope hubby took you out on a hot date :0)

The mod era is my very favourite fashion era of all time so your outfit holds a special place in my heart. Very fab!

I’m all over long leggings at the moment too – stirrups actually, with long silky tunics. In fact I'm wearing that right now and I have already duplicated my stirrups (sounds obscene I know). They are my #1 preference for leggings and overall ensemble outfit look at this moment. Thank you Vera Wang.

WOW! Totally excellent mod look. Way better than Twiggy, for sure! Love that little cutout on your dress (where DID you get that dress?) and your hair and makeup.

P.S. I kinda wanted to see what you would do with naughty secretary ;)

Laura you are the very picture of mod - LOVE!!!!

Thanks!! You've made my day, which today consists of taking two kindergarteners to the park -- as you can imagine, I am NOT dressing mod!

Researching Twiggy was fun. If I were going to be more authentic, I should have had a solid color dress, very short, with tights that matched the color of the dress, and even shoes the same color (or white. white mary jane or loafer-style shoes were big). I'm keeping mod style in mind as fall clothes hit the stores, as it suits my hair style. Although it seems this season is going to be all about the 80s!

Very nice, Laura! I love the outfit with the moto jacket. Glad you had fun with the challenge!

Laura: You wear this incredibly well. Of course, I may be bias, as I LOVE '60s fashion, but you nailed this challenge, plus some. Superb!

Laura, I missed this thread initially, and found it after you mentioned a "mod" thread in another post. I immediately perked up because I have such a soft spot for that look. Marianne mentioned the film "Blow-up" and that's exactly what I'm thinking of. I can't get those outfits out of my head.

I also have those same leggings :) Your fab outfit is an inspiration for sure.

I'm late to come in this thread, but I just wanted to say you look fantastic. Great combination of various styles.

I have been MIA a couple of days but you did an amazing job with the challenge. I think you're the first to really consider hair and makeup as part of your ensemble and it looks so, so, so great. I already have a copycat outfit in mind! Mod is my absolute favorite chapter of style history. I also had the same thought as Tara: Jean Seberg.

Carmindy has a section in her makeup book about creating a retro 60's look. I wish I were Caucasian so I could try it out but it would just look silly on me :p
