WIW: Too much volume?

Happy as I am to see wide legs coming back, I'm not sure what to do with them. Especially since my recent top shopping has been tunics and silky flowing things.

I adore this pair because they are knit and so comfy. I know that can be a dreaded slippery slope kind of word but what it means to me right now is "helps with some problems". I really need and want to wear them...but when I do I feel a bit guilty that I look like I'm wearing pajamas. They truly are trouser looking pants that feel like PJs. Unless I'm kidding myself and they look like PJs too?

Is this: Easy, Artistic, Colorful and Soft?
Or: Woman wearing PJs in public?

I absolutely love that top, and the color is exquisite on you. The pants do look pretty voluminous, but it's a little hard to get a good look at them. I wonder if they might be a little big on you?

Parsley, the pants fit well in the waist and hip, they are just true wide legs, loose from the hip down. My preference is for more fitted in the legs and flaring out gently from the knee. But I haven't found those yet in this kind of knit.

I think this looks fine, and I suspect the pants are even better in motion. Flowy black things are always difficult to photograph well.

Love the color and fit of the top. Hard to tell about the volume from the photos, but from the second one, it doesn't appear overly flowy. Enjoy!

Gorgeous color for you in that top! I think a pointy-toe pump peeking out under the pants makes everything good.

Carter's right --- the structure in the shoe makes a difference, as does the skin at the neckline and in the arms -- somewhere I think that Angie thinks of skin as a structural element in dressing.

Do you ever wear navy or ink blue? I think it can suit high contrast types and I like it as an alternative to black. No criticizing the black -- I just have been enjoying blue, too.

The pink is gorgeous! What is that top? Like you I recently bought a lot of voluminous tunic-y tops.

I think it pretty much comes down to shoes (or occasionally belting, but that is trickier for me). Jackets and blazers can also provide structure.

The difference between rounded toes and pointed toes or even almond toes of whatever height peeking out from under wide pants legs kind of astounds me sometimes when I test it out in the mirror.

What was the thread that alaskagirl (?) recently started about how to add structure to volume? There were a lot of good ideas in that.

I actually think this works really well. I would imagine there is beautiful fluidity and motion in these items IRL and I think the proportions are good. I would love to see a pointy toe with these trousers and think that would "seal the deal" so to speak.

Rabbit wants to know what the top is, and I want to know what the pants are. They look like something I would choose and when you say they are like wearing pj's, well, you're really getting me interested!

I really like the whole outfit. The top is gorgeous too. I bet pointy toe shoes would be a great addition to the outfit.

The top looks great on you, fab color. I think it the whole look works because the volume is contained by the drapiness of both top and bottom. Yes, very easy artistic.

Thanks everyone! I feel better about it now, although I do still think it won't be for everyone. But for something that helps me right now, it's a relief to know it is acceptable.

I'm sorry about the lack of pointy toe shoes, I just don't have any that I can walk much in.

Rabbit...I really didn't think I was going to be able to help you. I got the top last spring, 2013, in a local boutique. Just in case, I checked the label...James and Joy, which I have never heard of. But, the magic of Google! Here is the top. Looks like the same one, especially from the very distinctive back view, which I didn't show. Not the same color, but they do have a few choices:

Jenny H, here are the pants. Get them now...I was checking for several days, wondering if I wanted to duplicate, and they were sold out except in XS and XL. I guess some have been returned but probably not too many...unless they have restocked or something. I disagree with the reviewer who said they run small...I think they run true or large.

Peri, I think you look fantastic! Particularly in #2 the movement indicates a flawy, elegant look to me. The color of the top makes your own colors stand out in the best way possible.

I like the volume on volume look. The color of your top looks fantastic with your complexion. A pointy toed shoe would take this from beautiful to ultra beautiful.

Aren't pjs usually pastel? These drapey, flowy pants look great! I hope you can duplicate them some day in navy or other colors. The top is stunning on you; in addition to being one of *your* colors, the curved hem really makes it work. Your footwear situation is what it is; better to be up and walking than laid up in a hospital bed, right?
