I'd like to upgrade my daily winter boots from a very sporty LL Bean ankle boot (seen here next to my cutie patooty rain boots: http://www.flickr.com/photos/2.....748324320/) to something a bit more stylish. (FYI, I returned the Docs - just not me, sadly.)

Any thoughts on these boots, please?

Any other suggestions for me? My criteria for daily boots are as follows:

* slim fit through the calf (I have a 13" calf) as I plan to wear these only under pants
* a grippy tread is a bonus (no slippy sole like you often see on dress boots)
* Either a short heel (1 1/2" or so, or possibly a slightly higher stacked wedge heel)
* Chic, polished more than sporty
