Thanks for the blast from the past, Janet. I wonder what we're going to think about our current style twenty years from now!

so great - I refuse to look for any mom jean Photos!! - But I'm with you Janet - I won't be sporting any mom jeans EVER again - mainly because I have no waist anymore - so in order to fit the waist I'd be in clown pants!!! - thx for being so brave - I salute you!!

I'll try to find one of me with a spiral perm - oh dear.

Janet, I think I had those same jeans.

I'm glad I have some company here, and that this good for the amusement it was intended!

I know there are some fab ladies here who can rock this style in a totally current way, but it really doesn't play well with my body type, and just as importantly, there are a dozen other styles of jeans that I enjoy much more. As Angie says, it's a blessing to live in a time when we have lots of stylish options.

Deb, I'm betting those jeans were either Gap or Calvin Klein. The only brands at the time that were long enough for me. Then CK stopped carrying anything longer than a 32" inseam. My saving grace, fashionwise -- at least I had an inkling of PPL even if everything else was disastrous.

The good old days were not so good and certainly not looked on with longing now...You were brave to put your oldie out there...We thought we were so cute...back then...

Ah, Janet, me too. I had a pair just like that! You are a great sport to share this.

Yup, what can I say? Looks familiar. :^)

Janet even though the style here are clearly dated you still look gorgeous and your beautiful smile shines through. You have me wondering how different this latest round of mom jeans are? Looking at Cocolion in hers the look isn't quite like this. It could be interesting to dissect the old and new and see if it's more than just stylish that is making these look good in 2014.

Janet, thanks for posting this; got a good chuckle. These crazy high rises of the 80s and early 90s were why I was so excited when low rise jeans started coming out. Finally, pants that wouldn't crush my internal organs, and poke my ribcage when I sat down!

I'm glad you shared this. I was tempted to find mine but this is sufficient. I also sported the big baggy shorts (pleated and mom waisted though) with the ankle socks and keds your friend is wearing. What were we thinking? It was before WNTW and YLF so we just didn't know.

It was also the ignorance-is-bliss age before selfies and fashion blogging, and it seems like in a way, there was less pressure to look camera-ready all the time. We just followed the trends and wore what was in the stores, and gradually adopted the next trends as they rolled around. Well, some people did.

I never thought about whether my teeth were white enough back then, no one had ever heard of cankles or thigh gaps, and vanity sizing hadn't become a thing yet.

I think we're a little tougher on ourselves and our images these days. There is a positive side to that, but also a negative one too, when it goes too far.

Janet, I'm sure I have some similar photos of me from that era!

Thank you, Janet, for posting this. I keep saying to everyone who's intrigued by the new "mom jeans" that they're nothing like the old ones. This is what I'm talking about.

I remember those too! That was junior high for me, so my first pair of jeans from a non-kiddie store looked about exactly like that. (They were from the Gap. I still remember how excited I was to buy them and how stiff and uncomfortable they ended up being, especially right out of the wash.)

Yes, Janet, this whole "mom jeans" thing is a hard sell for me too. The 90s are still fresh in my memory, and it is NOT a flattering look. Unless of course you were BORN in the 90s, and therefore never experienced this look, and it all seems fresh and trendy.

Let the youngin's follow that trend. I am, however, thrilled that boot cut jeans are back!
