What to wear with this skirt - YouLookFab Forum

Sorry outfit posts have been few and far between for me lately. No time (I was at work for 18 hours yesterday!) and no light in winter make it hard to take pics.

Here's an outfit I wore out to dinner a few weeks ago. I took a pic because I wanted some ideas on what types of tops I could wear with this skirt.

My Mum gave me this skirt last year after buying it for herself and finding it didn't fit. I was dubious when she showed it to me, but I kind of really like like it. Problem is I don't know what to wear on top!

All I've worn so far with it is a plain long-sleeved tshirt as pictured here:

It feels kinda boring though. To get to the restaurant I threw on scarf and jacket over the top, which I think looks a lot better, but is too warm for inside.

What other tops could I wear with this skirt?? My top selection is very limited as I never have any luck finding tops I like for some reason!!!

I love how it looks with the scarf and jacket! Nice touches.

How about a tank top/cami and a lightweight denim jacket or a short-sleeve cardi? I like the scarf idea; do you have any lightweight ones?

Ooooo i LOVE your purple jacket.
I prefer the skirt in the jacket and scarf outfit. I guess it needs a fairly plain top because of the colours and patterns but the plain top looked too plain! So i'm a bit stumped can't wait to see what others suggest x

I like the skirt. I don't know if it would be practical for the season or your buget but I think the J Crew top featured in Angie's blog two days ago would look lovely. I would go for a tonal colour like the slate to create more textural interest.

I am looking forward to other peoples suggestions.

Oh and the second photo with the jacket and scarf is a definate winner.

It's fabulous with the leather jacket! That's the best way to wear a prim skirt like that - have to add a hard edge. Biker boots or Docs are good. Get some rest, Tam!

Thanks the for the feedback. I like the idea of a singlet type top underneath to keep it cool. I really liked the leather jacket with it, but that was just too warm to keep on inside. Maybe not if I have a lighter layer underneath huh!

Alecia I missed your other suggestion until just then! The only cowl top I own is zebra primt, so I don't think it will work! I am open to getting other ones though, and will certianly keep this suggestion in mind. I don't see many in shops here though I must admit!!

Tam - the jacket/scarf look great with it. The skirt has a lot going on, so not doing too much more is totally fine.
