What do you think of these Timberland boots?

I think these boots are only appropriate if you work in construction.

Timberland does make some more "fashiony" boots.

I would say they are definitely gear. Timberland does have great choices that are far more stylish. Those boots look highly practical, my husband would be happy if I had a pair!

I actually own a pair. I am certainly not going to defend them as stylish, but I cam happy to own and wear them during the snow season. I was wondering what your thoughts are given the extended discussion about uggs and how there seems to be a divide about how uggs are perceived.

I'm with Maya and Jean. These boots look like gear. But to Maya's point, Timberland is a great brand and you can get a more fashionable look from them too.

When I was in Junior High School (7th & 8th grade) those boots in the OP were the RAGE. We would wear them with the laces untied and knotted. We must have sounded like a herd of elephants clomping around school with them falling off our feet like that!

Which reminds me, one of my biggest pet peeves are people who drag their shoes when they walk.

I guess I'm a sucker for a good work boot...though I'd prefer them with skinny jeans. http://thisisnaive.com/?p=730 I love them as they age...and I think that it can depend on what else you wear them with...something stylish on top, rather than more gear. Not trying to convince anyone, but I'd wear those Timberland's, bellacville! I love my rigger boots I have now.

Not everyone's cup of tea, but I really like Blundstones.

Of course, you would have had to wear workboots everyday when you worked construction! Are you completely sick of them now? I've always had a strange attraction for uniforms and workboots...or finding those old Army Navy type stores. Thankfully these days designers rework so many of those styles in better fabrics and textures!

You look great in those boots and they are beautifully made. I noticed the leather is really nicely oiled. I think you have a wonderful and unique style. In fact when I had lunch with Angie in the spring I mentioned you as a person whom I admire for knowing yourself and therefore your style, and being comfortable with yourself. I want to obtain this level of comfort with myself and my style choices.
Yes I am sick of work boots for myself. I do like them for you and yours are well kept and not all beat up like mine were. I'm not saying that I have never found a rigger style boot to be stylish, because I do think they have a great edginess to them. I had a few pair over the years that I hated to take out into the field and beat up.
I've never heard of Blundstones until you mentioned them.

Oh San, thank you for such supportive words! I just left you a post on your sweater thread. I'm grateful for all of us (and that means you too) stylish "over 50" ladies here on the forum. If you wore mostly uniforms for your career, it might just be new territory for you and confidence comes with some time. I notice in your sewing you're very confident! My mom is a quilter, and is in a "stitch and bitch" group too.
