The right boyfriend cardigans & sweater tunics for me

I ma preparing for a hunt to incorporate a few of these in my fall wardrobe. I have actually already tried to do this on my own last season before I found YLF, and as you can see from the photos above, failed miserably

I have these three items, and I think that they are pretty unflattering, and they are in my to-donate basket. I *think* that I know what is wrong with them, and what to look for in the future; but I'd like to double check with you, so that I am prepared this time and do not end up waisting money again. So please critique away!

I'm new at this, but I think they all make you look a bit hippy. Can't tell you why (is it the length?)...just was my initial reaction.

i agree with the above. I'm not a fashion expert by any means but i think the difference between your waist and hips is making you look a tad wider than you are? The first one is probably the best imo.

Tanya, I think you need to keep your top lengths either around your hipbone or around your knees. The line across your thighs is not flattering with those tops. If it were an A-line the effect wouldn't be so harsh. I can't remember, are you looking for a longer boyfriend cardigan? I would look for tunics that weren't so body hugging if you're going to wear them longer. Just my 2cents

Thank you all, it is just as I suspected! Dani you are spot on! I just did not not want to post my opinion immediately as not to bias you.

I completely agree that all of these make me look very hippy. There are two main things I figured : wrong length and tapering/too tight bottom. As for the length it looks that I should go about 4" longer, till around mid thigh; or hipbone as Dani says, but than they wouldn't be tunic lengths anymore. And the bottom of the sweater needs to be more straight as opposed to tapered.

I'll stop by Salvation Army this weekend and these sweaters are coming with me and staying there.

Dani makes a good point. Also, you are very curvy Tanya. Those are silhouettes for rectangles. You want more of an A-line effect, OR more of a blouson effect. Both profiles will create balance.
