The end of an era...

...for a couple of years, at least! The Chickadee got ahold of my hoop earring yesterday for the first time (and my mom's earrings twice!). Off they go until she's past the grabby stage. Big silver hoops are my usual earrings of choice, so I guess it's time to put the CZ studs into heavy rotation instead. Any other ideas for grabby-baby-proof jewelry? I have a Mother of Pearl (http://www.smartmomjewelry.com.....038;cID=10) SmartMom Teething Bling necklace and bangle on the way, so at least I'll have that to wear. (Thanks to whoever suggested those back when Chickadee arrived! I want the turquoise ones too...)

Oh, sad to give up the hoops! I hope it won't be too too long until you can wear them again. I would say by age 2 you will be in the clear, if not sooner. (Also, be careful of any delicate necklaces. They can snap those fragile chains like nothing! And sunglasses ... oh my ... they can pinch fingers in the hinges or mangle them in one fell swoop!).

It's crazy that you have to babyproof both your house and wardrobe!

It won't be long at all until you can put them back into rotation! My oldest was like that and I was so afraid that he would pull my earrings out and cause a tear in my earlobe. My younger son is so careful - he likes to finger my earrings and necklaces but does it very delicately and never pulls so I've never had to worry about my jewelry around him.

Oh that is so cute that little Chickadee is grabbing for the bling! I notice a lot of new mommies get their hair cut short because the baby grabs the hair too. You're one step ahead of that game now. Good thing you don't have to worry about her grabbing specs off your face.

Ahhh...the grabby phase! I'd stick with simple stud earrings and your teething necklaces for now. You will have to be more careful if you wear her facing out, too. My son became quite the little shoplifter in stores, and he also tried to grab things in the kitchen. I couldn't wear him while cooking after that stage hit.

Oh no, first the cashmere and now the earings, welcome to the minimilist club.

Somehting that I have found brilliant while the youngest is at this stage is a magnetic clasp necklaces. If she pulls at the chain the clasp comes apart so there is no risk of breaking the chain and the weight of the piece means it is unlikely to fall to the ground without me noticing. I have also found swapping necklaces for scarves helpful.

My eldest on the other hand who turned two on Tuesday now wants to wear all of my jewellery, at the same time and wanders around saying oooh pretty.

If you find any more tricks of the trade please let me know.
