I was trying to look at the links Sarah suggested but they did not load. I’ll look again later. Have you been to Macys yet, Marianna?

I've been keeping an eye out for a coat for you too Marianna.
What do you think of these?

And I couldn't agree more, you're way too spunky and elegant to settle for a boring coat!

Oh, I know you are looking for a longer coat, but this one made me think of you!
http://www.babyphat.com/nshop/.....Louterwear

What kind of colour would you love for your new coat? For that matter, do you want a solid colour, or some kind of pattern/texture?

Also - not sure if this helps, but I was trying on coats in the local Marshall's store, and the Jones New York brand seems to be cut larger than some other brands, and I'm pretty sure they go up to 16/18 in most dept. stores. I know what you mean about Lane Bryant. I shopped there before, and I have 'issues' now with that place. They don't strike me as a good place for a coat though (black, beige, grey most likely) - even though I used to find other things there that worked for me.

Meanwhile, on the myshape website - there's some interesting looking coats.

Have no idea how these fit, but some of these look cute/non-boring to me:

There was a Jones New York sort of plaid type of coat with nice wide collar on this site as well, but it was double breasted, but I'm still not sure of what shapes work on people (can't even figure that one out for myself yet..).

The Kenneth Cole New York Cream Coloured coat in this link looks pretty nice (maybe not as funky as the other cream one you posted earlier), and it goes to a 16:

For some annoying reason, the myshape site doesn't allow me to click on over to the Plus Sizes and see what they have to offer in Plus ....kind of a pain. Plus, I seem to be challenged in trying to put a link to a single coat from that site.

In any case, it might be kind of interesting to do their questionnaire and see what they recommend for what will fit you well. They do 'sizeless' shopping on their site. Kind of interesting - and it's surprising all the different sizes that apparently will fit me.

Meanwhile, I am in a similar boat as you - need a new coat - and I've really been enjoying all the great links in this thread

Angie, I've been to Macys... two different locations... and both had absolutely nothing decent. They had maybe a total of 4 plus size coats and none of them interested me. But they had a sea of straight size coats. Tons and tons. Sigh.

Inge, how in the world did you pull that off? All of those coats are the best looking plus size coats I have seen yet. Surprisingly, the only one that I don't really care for is the Baby Phat one... maybe it's the dumb brand name, but the sleeves look cheap IMO! All of the links are going on my list of possibilities! Sadly none of them give me that "I WANT THAT COAT!" feeling, but we're getting closer! I actually *really* like the oversized houndstooth coat! That's my favorite so far! Thank you!

VC, I want a bright color... maybe yellow or purple, but I'd settle for a funky houndstooth or tweed. I know I don't want plaid or grey... and I'd prefer to stay away from black, but if the coat is awesome, black might be okay. I was at Marshall's today and they had nothing at all... maybe 3 plus size coats. Very sad. TJ Maxx was a bit better, but still nothing. The Rack also had nothing interesting at all. I just want something young and fun. I will wear my coat a lot and I want it to make a statement! Maybe I'm asking for too much. Or maybe this is punishment for eating too much...

You deserve a fun and funky coat - and I bet you'll find one. So a solid bright is what you're after. You look very good in both yellow and purple - I'll keep my eye out and if I see anything, I'll be sure to post it.

I have had *zero* luck at Marshall's, so you're not alone in thinking they just don't have the selection they might have had in previous years. Meanwhile, what is it with all the black, grey and tan coloured coats out there? Ho hum.

You're not asking for too much - this is how you'll find just the right coat. Being particular, and wanting something special.

This isn't purple or yellow, but did you try this one on yet?

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/30.....0423bb4e79

Good luck - it'll be neat when you find something you love.

VC - I actually really like that one, but it's too short. I want something longer. I'm really not trying to be so difficult!

Yep... it's a sea of black, grey and tan coats out there. Lots of red too, actually. None of those colors excite me.

Let me know if you see something!

I'm back to puffers, and you need one:

o http://www.burlingtoncoatfacto.....1_81877278 – go for black. You look great in black!

o http://www.burlingtoncoatfacto.....1_81799466

This one comes in either yellow or purple - not sure if it's what you're after, but figured I'd put in here:

http://store.delias.com/item.d.....PEr9u0K3Sw

Thing is - I don't think it's any longer than that orange one....

See? I need a coat too, so this is all very useful to me. Those puffer coats Angie's found at Burlington Coat factory look really good, they have all the right elements she mentioned - flattering seams and are 'non puffy puffers'.

VC, are you plus size? I don't believe I've seen a picture. I know you're losing weight, but are you still wearing plus sizes? Just wondering!

Angie, I have a puffer. I bought it 2 years ago, pre-YLF and I know it's all wrong now. I have this one in black: http://www.landsend.com/pp/Rev.....038;sku_0=::AQB&CM_MERCH=IDX_00002__0000000142&origin=index

I wasn't planning on replacing my puffer yet, but I really like your suggestions. The list of things I want is never ending!

I remember that you have a puffer my dear, Marianna! I threw the idea out again just in case it became a priority – which it *might* if your wool coat search fails. At least you’ll have a fabulous puffer which is a necessity in Chicago.

Angie, good point! In the winter I reach for my puffer more than my wool coat anyway.

Ahhhh! I had my suspicions. Sometimes there is method to my madness.

Right as usual, Angie.

I suppose I'll go to a local Burlington Coat Factory and see if they have these coats in the store so I can try them on!

I still want a wool coat, though! I want both now... ha.

It's worth making the trip! You might find a fab wool coat too :0)

I'm a super-late-comer to this thread, but it's fascinating and oh so à propos. I have to tackle the wool coat search again too (I've been putting it off). In my case I think I know what store I'll go to, but now I'm having serious doubts about red or grey (the colours I was considering). If they're so ubiquitous, will they look drab? Or will I be saved by the fact that I'm looking for a more classic style?

I'm totally in sympathy with your selection quandry, Mariannna, and I give you huge props for being tenacious and refusing to compromise on style! I'm sure it will pay off.

Michelle,
I don't see how a red coat could ever look drab!

Marianna,

No, I'm not plus size anymore - but I was. Used to wear a size 24/3x and am now down to a size 8.

Meanwhile, I can relate to a lot of the frustration with finding clothes.

I still haven't posted any pictures yet - but I will get this done soon. I'm going to need a lot of help as I try and come up with something of a wardrobe. Your coat thread has been very good reading for me too though - since I am currently Coatless in Colorado. I mean, I have a coat from last year, but it's too big, enough to be dorky looking. Gotta fix that, and fast.

I'm wrapping my head around the idea of a Non Boring Coat. I found a fun one last year (brown textured thing), but for the most part - very boring - black wool, navy trench, that kind of thing. So - keeping my eyes peeled here on these great threads with all kinds of fabulous-looking coats

I am looking all over the place (online) at coats for myself, and came across this one that you might be interested in (in the purple):

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/29.....6&P=1

The colour's nice, the collar is neat - not the cheapest option, but I think I saw something about a sale at Nordstrom coming up next week sometime?

VC, that looks like a beautiful coat that would go over other layers easily. I hope it goes on sale because I'm interested too. So far I haven't found the right wool coat. A card in the mail today says the "Half-Yearly Sale" starts Wed. November 4.

Marianna - have you seen this coat from Old Navy in "blink pink"?

or this one in purple:

This one has adorable details (seen more in the lighter of the two available colors) - but I warn you - it is in grey!
