Team Wear: WIW with new top 10.16 and some K/R

In my thread of a couple of days ago, I lamented that many of my long-sleeve tops were not sparking much love. Quite a few of them have been in my closet for a few years and have been useful, but a little refreshing seemed to be in order.

I did a little shopping the other day, and found some contenders. One of them I liked so much that I cut the tags and wore it last night out to casual dinner with friends.

Here's the rundown of new purchases:

1-2 Fifteen Twenty black wrap top -- soft, comfy, not too voluminous and just drapey enough yet with a nice shape. Needs a tank underneath but that's no problem. Strong contender to keep.

3 Elliot Lauren cold shoulder asymmetric top. I already wore it! I love that it works well under a jacket but has more personality when I take the jacket off! Keeping.

4-6 Red Haute ribbed knit top with laced side detail. I loved this in the store, but I'm not as sure looking at the pics. The laced sides start at a point that may be emphasizing how short my torso is and how wide my hips are. Or maybe I just need to try it on again and pull it down more -- I was in a rush taking these pics.

7 Neiman Marcus cashmere V neck sweater (on crazy good sale). Ultra lightweight silk cashmere blend. Needs a layer underneath because it is sheer, but I love the colors (mint with white, teal and navy) and neckline, and the fit is nice. Inclined to keep.

8 Equipment star print cashmere sweater (another good bargain). I think this looks better IRL than in the photo but I welcome feedback. The print is fun but the grey/black color scheme keeps it from skewing too cutesy for me. Not itchy at all and the fit is good for wearing alone or layering.

9-12 WIW last night. BR cropped jeans, new cold shoulder top, Nine West forest green boots, Lucky necklace. Dark teal clutch from NAS maybe three years ago. Added the Atelier faux leather/faux fur lined jacket since the evening turned cool.

Feedback welcome! (Ugh, just realized I took all the try-on pics before I put on makeup or touched up my roots -- please ignore face and hair in those! Thank god I have a hair appt on Tuesday!)

These are nice options! I usually don't like cold-shoulder tops but the Elliott Lauren top is lovely. And I like the Red Haute top on you--it shows your curves in a good way!

I love the wrap top and cold shoulder top! They're both great on you and just interesting enough.
The wrap also looks cozy and good for a casual life.

Your cold-shoulder top and the outfit you wore with it are super fabulous. That top is made for you! I like your choice of necklace with it, too--that piece perfectly balances the drama of the cold-shoulder details. (I'm a big fan of Lucky jewelry--they come up with some very cool, arty-looking pieces at bargain prices, don't they? Especially when you get them on sale.)

My other favorites here are mint v-neck sweater (a fun take on the tennis sweater neckline!) and the first top, with the draping. The Equipment sweater is cute, and I know it will be cozy and easy to wear in cold weather--I like the simplicity of throwing on a cashmere sweater that doesn't need any other pieces, under or over (other than a camisole, maybe), to make it work.

The lace-up top is good, but not especially noteworthy in my book. If you're going for tops with a little bit of interest, to me, this one is a bit too subtle. I think it's because the bit of interest is at the side and most apparent from a side view rather than from the front. It could be really cool peeking out from under a short jacket, though.

Love the wrap top and cold shoulder. The mint is a great color infusion, and adding a star print for interest is good idea.

I love the cold shoulder top and the star print sweater - those are my top two picks. Your outfit was fabulous.

I also like the Red Haute top too, I don't see it as unflattering at all.

I have a couple of reservations about the mint top - I am frustrated with the wear on these thin sweaters. The colour is a fun change up though for winter.

I like the cold shoulder top and the laced-sides top the best. I like the star print Equipment sweater in principle but think you could have gone a little smaller in size.

First impressions - the cold shoulder top is fantastic, of course you wore and are keeping, although the color is hard to see the mint v neck sweater looks really interesting and keepable, I am not crazy about the top with the side ties, but perhaps I am projecting how they would constantly untie on me. Also my side view is not what I like to emphasize, which is emphatically not an issue for you. So I abstain. Not crazy about the star sweater, yes to drapey top!

My two most favourite ones are the cold shoulder and side lace up tops. I love the side view of the lace up one, you look very slim.

The cold shoulder is a no brainer. Looks fab on you. I'd say keep the wrap too.

I like the deep vee for the colours on you, but I wonder if the style isn't a bit preppy for your rock'n roll persona. Ditto the star sweater which looks a bit bulky from here. Not feeling the ties so much either.

What a great haul for " a little shopping"! I tend to agree with Appropio...the wrap and cold shoulder are best. The teal one does look a bit preppy and the star one looks a bit casual...but of course if you love 'em keep 'em! I also have to thank you for the top-shopping inspiration which I need right now...

Great feedback, all! It helps me to look at these items with critical eyes since I do sometimes fall victim to sale goggles.

My fave is the cold shoulder top! I'm on the hunt for a similar as some have such big cut offs appearing too slouchy for my taste and lacking any structure, but this one is great!

Janet, I love your coining the phrase "sale goggles"!!! I am both a visual and a verbal person and having a catch phrase sometimes really resonates with me, particularly when I'm trying to curb a not-so-great habit. I seem to wear my "sale goggles" constantly, and am drawn toward bargains before all other considerations. It's a life long habit that has kept my spending under good control, but I need to stop doing this and let myself open up other possibilities. Now that I can think of it simply as "taking off the sale goggles" I think it may be easier! Thanks so much!

Lovely new tops, I especially like the could shoulder top, wrap top and side lace top. The sweaters are both nice, but the mint one does not strike me special enough for you, and the star one look a little big. Nice outfit, too, love those green booties.

Love the outfit you wore, perfect. I also like the wrap top and don't think the side lace top is unflattering at all. I'm not so sure about the two cashmere sweaters, maybe they are just different from the way I normally see you. I also love the booties.

I'm no help because I really like them all on you. When I looked at the one with the lace up sides I thought "wow, long legs" not short torso. But...if it's giving you pause maybe it shouldn't stay.

I'm with AviaMaria... I was actually going to start my response with that exact same first sentence. They all LOOK great... only you can decide if they FEEL great and will work with your wardrobe/style direction.

I like them all but especially the black wrap-top, cold shoulder top (I have a bit of a sugar eye towards cold shoulder right now), and the star sweater. I love the mint tennis sweater but also thought it might be a bit preppy. You may have some styling ideas that will make it more edgy and fit with your style. The one with ties is my least favorite but I have a hard time with ties and grommets in general so I'm not sure I'm being entirely objective.
