Oh, they can definitely be tucked into boots! I tried that with my LC boots, and it looked good, no bunching, probably because the calf is pretty slim. I'll try to take and post a photo for you tomorrow.
I know what you are talking about when you mention that feeling, I used to feel that way too. I guess I got used to it and it was the matter of adjusting my eye, I sure you will too. I even prefer how I looked in skinnies back when I get 10 lb more than now.
