I've been seeing this a lot lately, and I actually quite like it. It sounds like a good solution for me: Comfy, warm, and cute. I would like to try it out with my gray patent mary janes. What color socks would look best? Are patterned socks acceptable (I'm thinking argyle)?

Whew - I was wondering about that too. I was having visions of "Ugly Betty". She always wears socks with her pumps.

No no. The other day on campus I saw a girl wearing black pumps with black ribbed trouser socks under skinnies. I thought it looked pretty cute.

I think I recall Angie giving it a thumbs down somewhere, sometime. But I think it's cute and hipster. Trouser socks, mind you. We're not talking big fuzzy wool socks.

i think tanya actually sported this look in her latest post...

i like the idea of a textured sock more than a patterned sock, but that's just my preference.

Maya, I just got a mailer from J.crew titled "Just ask..." and it said that they give college students 15% off with a valid student ID. I can't recall if you are still a student, and I have yet to try it. It also provides 15% off to teachers with a valid ID. If you try it, let me know.

I think that it's a sweet look with pants. I personally like it when it's done with subtly textured but solid trouser socks.

Shell, you are absolutely right, those are trouser socks. I wasn't really going for a look though, it was too cold to go barefoot and those were the only socks I had that I thought might somewhat work with the shoes. I am really glad you liked them. I think I need to get a micro fishnet version of the socks for the future.

i love this look, and if i didn't have to walk in snow and slush to the bus stop, would totally be rocking it right now ;). tanya looked great in her take on it! i personally like the idea of a subtle argyle pattern - and yes, no big chunky socks please!

Thank you very much Maya! I am very flattered to hear that you might copy it. As I've said, it happened as an accident in that outfit, it was too cold to go without any socks and those were the only nude ones I have, but I always wore them completely covered in the past. I was actually feeling quite self-conscious about them that day!
