Slightly OT - My first attempt at sewing a top for me

I am so excited that I could bust! I wanted to show off the first ever garment that I've made for myself, I am so very proud of it.

If I look close up I can see where I've made mistakes but I certainly learned alot from the whole process. I am now planning a dress based on this same top and I am feeling more of these coming on for summer

Thanks everyone for the kind comments. I find it so satisying to sew clothes for myself, I find looking at clothes in store now and asking myself if I can make it! I will certainly model it for you - watch this space

Congrats on your first top! I've been sewing for 25+ years and I still am a little surprised when a bunch of pieces of fabric come together into an actual, wearable garment!

That's awesome! I need to work on my top-sewing skills - I've found making skirts to be much easier, but I think the main difference is that using a woven fabric is easier for me than a knit.

Did you use a pattern? Model it off of an existing shirt?

Beautiful, Karen! Those colours will be lovely on you...isn't it good knowing what goes into making a garmentff? I love sewing.....hours pass and I realize I haven't cooked dinner. My husband knows he's on his own once I'm at the wheel!

How pretty- and you made it!

All summer I kept thinking that the sort of simple, sleeveless top I was looking for would be easy to make- if I had ever sewn clothes! I haven't gone beyond curtains, but maybe I should give it a try.

Aww thanks Ladies - I'm blushing! Yes I am totally addicted now, I want to make so many things but it's hard because I dont yet have the skills or experience to do what I want. I decided to start with a basic pattern that had no darts, zippers, closures etc. so I didnt have too much to stress about. My mother was a sewer and I learnt some skills from her when I was in my teenage years which is mostly long forgotten. This is the pattern I used

Lynne I can totally relate to that feeling, time flies so much when I am sewing until I realise it's dark outside and I really should be doing something else!

I also made a little fabric clutch as well, which will be handy for when we are travelling and to just put those bits & pieces in.
