I sent these back because they are too small. The William Rast brand seems to run kind of small. I also think that these are styled for a younger woman, but thought I'd show you because I think the shirt is made in an unusual way. If you notice the bottom has sort of a peplum to it and so it gathers under the bottom of the vest in an interesting way.
I'm wondering what style of vest would work for me. Starting with this one, would you say it should be longer or wider or cut differently? Possibly a different color? I admire this look on others but I don't know if it is right for me.

San, I am sorry to hear you have sent them back. The vest fits you perfectly in my opinion, and the shirt looked good too.

What's worrying you about the waistcoat, San? It's KILLER.

San -- I think that you can definitely wear a vest. Maybe one with a wider shoulder "strap" would feel more comfortable. This one is cut in a lot at the bustline. I think it looked fine but that was a style difference from some other vests that I noticed.

I wondered if it being so cut in at the shoulder gave it a look that was suited for a younger woman. I did reorder it in a medium because I felt the shirt and vest in small as shown in the picture, were a bit snug.
I'll be happy if it gets the thumbs up.

San, love the color, the shape AND the fit on you....and they aren't age inappropriate (to me anyway) at all. I vote for getting the size small back. I think both the shirt and the vest look great on you! (next time show us pics first before you send them back :)!)

San, I agree that the white shirt is a little small - I can see that the shoulders are a bit small, and the body and arm length, too - especially for a garment that might shrink a bit with laundering. It is a fantastic shape, though! Love it! I bet it's going to be perfect in Medium.

But the vest - KILLER. I am not sure if a Medium will work, because this one really looks perfect. Of course you are the only one who knows how the garment feels!

San, you look FANTASTIC! Now I am wanting both these items. I have the navy WR vest-- did you try that one? It is not cut so much on the shoulders but the gray one really looks fabulous on you. Please keep and work through your feelings that it is too young for you because you look killer as everyone says.

I loved the vest with the blouse on you. You look so slim but curvy. It's not too young looking. I loved the look of the bottom of the blouse peeking beneath the vest.

Wow. You look fabulous! Perhaps you're just not used to clothes that fit closer to the body? Or is the fabric that's making it feel young? I don't think it looks young - but it is definitely a modern, stylish look. To me it's current and very fashionable without being trendy. It's "hip." (And I'm sure it's not "hip" to say "hip" anymore, LOL!) The shirt is great on its own, too. I love the little flare at the bottom. The shirt/vest looks great with your jeans. With your figure you can absolutely wear that style! (I think a larger vest might be too large, but let's see when you get it.)

I do understand your concern about whether it's age appropriate. I think you have to be comfortable wearing something. If it's not "you" you'll never love it. But I don't think it crosses the line in any way at all! You look fab!

Great, it's wonderful to get thunbs up from you stylish ladies. I just don't want to be that older woman who looks good until you get a glimps of her face and see that she is wayyyy over the hill. You know what I mean? I also worry about looking like a stick with clothes on.
The white shirt is very stretchy but the shoulder seams were quite high on my shoulders.
Patience I did order the blue vest too and I couldn't button it, but I sure do like the color.
I also ordered the black button shirt and it was not as stretchy as the white so I decided that this brand runs small.
Anyway I talked to Nordstrom's rep on the phone and she said that they have lot's of these items in stock (must not have sold well at full price) so I felt confident that I could work with them until I get the size right.
Thankyou all so much for your help. I feel very confident now that I can pull this off. What do you think for necklace, pearls or a long necklace? If I wear a long strand do I put it on the outside of the back of the collar?
I'll post pictures when I get the mediums.

I'm glad you aren't giving up on this look. It does look killer on you! I could see a long string of pearls or beads or a long chain with a pendant, either put on the outside of the back of the collar. An adjustable chain at the back would be ideal so that the part under the collar would be mostly chain, if that makes sense.

San, I hope you are able to figure out which size vest works for you and get it. I personally think the small looks great and fits you perfectly. I don't think it looks "too young" for you at all. Nothing to worry about--you look fab!

That shirt is adorable! I love all the details. I can see how it is a little small on you, and I hope the medium fits. The vest is great too. I personally like a little wider shoulder 'strap' on my vests, mostly because I have fairly wide shoulders and I think the narrower ones look a little out of proportion on me. However, it looks fine on your tall, slim body.

Well I'm not sure really about the necklace, but I thought I would need to have one to bring some femininity to the outfit. I also think I will have to wear this shirt with a skirt because of the short length. I will have to wear a different shirt under the vest for jeans.
To answer your question Laura about the necklace, I don't have a long neclace but I do like them and this may be a good time to get one. i do already have a sting of pearls though. Color in a long necklace might be nice.

I agree that color would be nice too, although pearls might add the femininity and age-appropriateness that you want. I guess you'll have to take more photos for us with it accessorized so everyone can chime in!

I too think the vest/waistcoat looks smashing, better than the white shirt on its own. They appear short though, perhaps are better in length for a skirt.

San, the blouse is a little snug for sure but the waistcoat looks perfect. It got a KILLER rating.

Now, it’s interesting that you feel that the cut of this waistcoat might be suited to a younger women, when on the other hand, you feel completely age –appropriate in a T-shirt. For me, it’s completely the other way around
