I was so thrilled in the not so distant past to finally find some pretty ballet flats in my very hard to find size (6WW). I did not hesitate to order them. Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out. I actually ordered a 5.5WW, 6WW. and 6.5WW to make sure of the size, but they all give me problems. My foot is only wide in the toe area, but my ankle isn't. I don't have "fat" feet--my bones are just very spaced out. The 6.5WW was dreamishly comfortable in the toe box, but there was a good half inch of space in the back, and even with a heel liner they would not stay on. The 5.5 stayed on, but was pinching a bit. So I decided to keep the 6, and after wearing them all day, I can't say they're all that great. The also slip off if I start walking too fast, but putting in a heel liner pushes my toes up to the front. Remember when your mom told you to always leave half an inch between the toe and the front of the shoe? Well that doesn't seem to work with ballet flats, so unfortunately I'm starting to suspect that it's just this style of footwear that is never going to work for me. I thought they were comfortable, but after being spoiled by riding boots and sneakers all winter, it's clear that they aren't nearly as comfy as I thought. What else is there though? I suspect the same will go for all slip on shoes. I was thinking of trying some mary janes, which have a strap that might help the shoe stay on even if it's too big, or slingbacks, which can be adjusted in the ankle area. Does anyone else have this problem?
