(scam) email saying I won a big lottery

I don't know who to report this to because I'm sure it is a scam.
In my email box is an email saying I won a huge part of a huge amount of money from "Microsoft Online Promo Winning Result 1020". The return address is from, (don't open) grantawards002@cox.net. Please don't open it as I do not want to cause harm to anyone if it is a virus. It says it is a United Kingdom award.
Does anyone know where I report a scam?

I would just ignore it and delete it. I get a million of these in my spam folder and it's all bogus. Don't waste your energy on it!

I agree with Marianna, please just delete the email.

There is a facebook scam doing the rounds as well asking you to download an attachment regarding your profile so be on the look out for that.

I never open an attachment if the email says dear sir or madam or if they claim to be from an organisation and the email address does not correspond. i.e American Airlines would not use an @hotmail account.

I don't know who you report these things to San.

I've had some scam email supposedly from the UK tax office claiming i have a huge tax rebate due- yeah right! I usually think if it sounds too good to be true then it probably is x

I have known people who were vitims of scam and I suppose that is why I got riled up.

San, what email provider do you use? I use gmail and there's a little "report spam" button that you can hit whenever you're "in" a particular email/conversation- this moves the email to your spam folder, blocks further emails from that address, and actually makes the provider better at recognizing spam for other users, too. Not sure if hotmail or whatever has a similar option.

Hi San ! I have won and inherited so much money from Nigerian princes, that I was able to stop working and become a SAHM.....my husband has not inherited anything so he works ! : )

This should be reported to the Federal Trade Commission which tracks this kind of stuff. It seems minor, but it is important that they stay on top of this. Every time I get one of these I forward it to the FTC :
