Patterned Tights?-thoughts

I found a great pair of zigzag patterned tights and if all goes well i'm going to wear them today underneath a pair of shorts (maybe) or shirt dress. Paired with flats/ankle boots?? Has anyone else worn patterned tights? And how did you wear them?

Sure! But monochromatic colours and not under shorts. Under frocks and dresses.

The only time I've worn patterned hose is in 2005 when we were in vienna. I'd always wanted to sport that look, but had no guts to do it in the U.S. But europe - different story!

I don't wear skirts and dresses much in the fall/winter months, but I am hoping I can give this another shot, now that I'm gaining more confidence in the fashion area. I've seen people put the patterned, dark hose over an opaque colored hose (like purple or grey) and it looks so awesome.

I love patterned tights! I wear them with my plain LBD in the winter (the pattern ads visual interest & texture to an otherwise simple outfit) with heels. I have also sported them with black boots and a black cord knee-length skirt. I usually stick with smaller sort of patterns and only really wear them when they don't compete with the rest of my outfit. I bought a bunch on sale at the end of last winter in browns and look forward to pairing them with a denim pencil skirt and my brown suede boots this fall.

Well I wore patterned (red and black check) tights with short shorts in 1991/2!
Hardly relevant! You do need to be careful that the pattern is flattering to your legs eg if the pattern gets a lot bigger on your thighs it mightn't be such a good idea.

I was just recently thinking about getting a pair of patterned tights. I was thinking about wearing them with my dark denim skirt and knee high boots, so there's just a little bit of pattern showing. If anyone else tries out the look, I would love to see pics!

Violet, I was hoping to go for this look (but not near as fab) posted by greenglove (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....re-today-3)
but with brown patterned tights (sort of a sweater knit pattern in a dark brown). I'm thinking it might work with some sweaters or a cute cord jacket like in the photo.

I love patterned tights! I opt for interesting knits instead of prints and wear them as I normally would. So while I'm not a huge fan of tights and shorts, I think they'd look great with any dress or skirt.

My favorite pair is sweater knit. Since it's cold here ALL THE TIME (which I hate) I wear a white eyelet minidress with a black long sleeved t-shirt under it, along with my tights and black cowboy boots or flats. There's tons of texture and pattern but it's tonal and subtle.

Shana - thanks for posting the link! That is the kind of look I was envisioning. If I end up trying the look, I will definitely post a link. I am actually looking forward to cooler weather so I can wear some different pieces in my wardrobe.

Patterned tights are great on slim legs as they will make them appear curvier.
