Hi,

I bought these skinny black jeans at Macy's. They are
Earl Jeans. Am I too curvy for this look?
I am up a few pounds, I just put my dog down so I have been
hanging out with the carbs of late. Going back to the gym will take away my squishies (love handles)
Also these pants too low for me? I am 52 yrs old.
They make the sitting down test-not showing anything
out the back door...
The boots I have on are rubber and most likely I would wear a pair of black leather Franco Sarto boots that look more polished for my age.
I think the older I get ,the word "polished" is becoming more important. Besides that is what I am shooting for now for my look.. which is why this site is such a find.

Hi Kellee, a big welcome to the forum from me as well. I missed your 'body type' thread, but I just saw your picture and I can't believe you are 52!

I'm very sorry to hear about your dog, you must miss him/her-(

I'm not an expert on skinny jeans (have yet to buy my first pair myself), but I don't think they are too low and I like how they look on you.

I'm sure the other ladies will chime in with better feedback soon.

As a disclaimer, I am not really on the "skinnies for all" bandwagon. I still think they are best left to willowy straight body types. But they are the only jeans that can be tucked into boots, which is a look I like on all body types. I think this look works well for you. I assume you only tucked your top in so we could see how low they are, otherwise I'd say not to do that...but on that note, I don't think they are too low for you.

I think it really depends on your own vision of your body. I don't like to put more emphasis on how curvy I am, so I don't like to wear them without boots unless I have a very long tunic/mini dress that hides my hips and thighs. But if you like to emphasize your curves and feel comfortable with that, then you might feel differently. However, I think with the boots the look is a winner.

Hi Kellee...I would never have guessed your age.

I think the jeans may e a bit too low cut. I think the higher rise jeans are predominant right now, so that's what I'm used to seeing. But, it could just be that the jeans look too low because your shirt is tucked in and you're wearing a belt. Personally, I prefer a longer top with skinnies--at least hip bone length. Also these particular jeans look a little bit snug in the crotch area. Sometimes low rise jeans can have that look if you are trying to hike them up higher than they are intended.

Thank you for your kind words about my dog.
I really miss her but I know she is in a far better place now.
She was a real sweet pea, unconditional love wrapped in fur.

And thank you for comment on the age thing.
I noticed after I sent in that picture a lot of people only show their body, so I was feeling a bit over exposed.

A good thing is this way everyone will see what type of clothes would work for my face too.. Classic is best for me, I have come to terms with that. I just want to avoid the spouting whales on my pants kind of thing
No offence intended to anyone who loves their pair. It is just not my thing..
I would like to learn how to mix things up a bit for my age.

I was going to wait till I took off the pounds to send pics
but what the heck, I will be this weight again sometime,
might as well get the feedback if this much curve looks good with
skinny jeans.

I'm so sorry you lost your dog. I am a dog lover and it hurts me to just see my dog getting older.
You are a young 52. I don't think you are overweight and I think these jeans look great on you. Are they comfortable?

Have you tried the Express Mia skinnies? I am 49 and I love them for tucking into boots.

There is no issue of bending over in them because they are higher rise. I find them very comfortable.

They come in dark dark denim. Not black, I do not think.

I agree about wearing a longer top too---- not the belt.

I think you are right about the longer tunic.
I also like to wear large sweaters so they would
work with them, perhaps belted.
You were right I was tucking them in to show you the curves.
If you have them you have got to love them,right?
I would not feel comfortable wearing them tucked in. Been there done that in the early 70's when I was much younger!

Does anyone know of a brand that has skinny jeans with a higher waist? These were the highest I could find. Boy do they make some low jeans out there! I suppose I could just wear tights,but I do like having something more substantial, it can get very cold here in Boston in the winter.

I have a boyfriend cardigan that I bought at Nordstroms (Anniversary Sale) What do you all think about that with a belt(thin) if you have curves?

I am looking for black skinny pants with a high rise.
So if anyone out there knows of a brand for a curvy
body that would be great.

Kellee, J Brand has a higher rise and has both skinny jeans and straight leg jeans that come in black. Joe's jeans cigarette style also comes in black and has a higher rise.

I'm an hourglass and I wear my boyfriend cardigan with a skinny belt with no problem.

Express is a store and these are the jeans:

You've already gotten great advice on the skinnies, I just wanted to offer my condolences on your dog. I am currently trying to type while my youngest cat is begging for attention, and I can't imagine losing something so dear.

Hi Kellee - I'm so glad there are a few of us "mature" types here! I'm 51 and also an hourglass, with shortish legs. I am attempting my first skinny jeans/boots outfit.

I have exactly the same issues you do.

I found a pair of Calvin Klein skinnies that are labeled low-rise, but they felt fine on me. I'd say they come up a tiny bit higher than the ones you have on. (Unfortunately my camera is broken so I can't post any pics.) But they are not true high rise. I could not find any real high rise anywhere. I'm definitely going to try the Express MIA's next time I go to the mall.

And I completely understand what you mean about "polished." That's a fabulous word for it. At 51 I'm starting to feel silly in anything that's not simple. I just posted about this white blouse that I fell in love with -

The fit was great on me, but ultimately it just felt too young. It's hard to explain, and in my younger days this would have "ME" written all over it. But the more I looked at it on myself, the more I felt something was off. There were just a few too many ruffles I guess. I was sad for a moment, but I'm over it now. I would love to find the perfect white shirt that fits me just right. I'm aiming for classic but not boring.

I'm 48, and just can't handle low cut jeans because I don't find them comfortable, and if I am carrying a few extra pounds, bulges are visible. I very much like David Kahn jeans for a higher rise with a modern look. There is not a skinny-skinny cut, but I have the straight legs and am comfortable that they are "skinny enough." Kellee - I tried on another pair of skinnies that I really like! They are from DKNY and the tag says "slightly below the waist/skinny leg." On me the waist felt fine.

They are black denim, which I really like. They are a true, true skinny leg. I almost feel like I'm wearing leggings, but since they're denim I feel covered. But I definitely will want to wear a longer top with them since they are very form fitting. They look fantastic tucked into my tall black riding boots. I think I might like them better than the Calvin Klein skinnies I wrote about before, since the legs are really skinny and they're black. I have not yet tried the MIA skinnies - they're next on my list.

I like the pants and think that they fit but maybe the belt is hiking them up too much. From the side it looks like they fit fine. I would love to see them with a longer top. I think that lots of body types can wear skinny jeans. You have nice long legs which helps a lot with the boot into pants look. I would suggest longer top and perhaps higher boots. I think that the boyfriend cardigan belted with a thin belt would be perfect and give you a polished, classic and very modern look.

I honestly forgot about all the adjustments I made to myself to take these pictures .
I read your thoughts and tried happylife's suggestion. Light bulb moment. What a girl will do when she wants something. I had a blonde moment for bad fashion. Oh the shame...Oh the shame of it all.

I am kidding here, I have a dry sense of humor.

But now I have incredible resources!

Yes . I agree the boot is too short, I put these on to show the pants . I have knee high leather Franco Sarto boots that I plan to wear with them.
The vertical lines are not in proper proportion with these on,…as I know you are very knowledgeable about such things : )
