Is this dress too short for the 40 year old legs? Do I need to wear this with leggings only?

It looks knee length to me, which I think is wholly appropriate. Do you feel comfortable about the length walking and sitting?

I think it looks great - very cute with the scarf! If you feel too exposed, perhaps knee-high boots would work better - that way more skin is covered. Or you can wear them with some fishnets or patterned hose. I have the one from last year and it was maybe an inch or so shorter which **felt** borderline although a couple of people assured me that it wasn't too short.

It looks about 4 inches north of "knee length" to me. I would not be comfortable sitting in that without hose/tights/leggings coverage.

You did a great job accessorizing with boots and scarf, which make it age-appropriate to me - I'm just a prude when it comes to hem lengths.

You have fantastic legs and I love the way you've styled the dress, but personally I'd wear it with leggings, skinnies, or at least opague tights. I wouldn't look at you funny if I passed you on the street with bare legs, however.

Are those shirt dresses available in stores, or online only? Love it.

MPJ, it is north of knee length, which is why I asked. I err on the side of prudish, too and wondered if I was just being hyper-sensitive. I actually have good bottom coverage when I sit.

Shana, I also have last year's version, and this one seems a bit longer...although I haven't washed it yet. Last year's is definitely a leggings only dress.

crasdy, thanks, and I ordered this dress online only because my store didn't have the green in stock. It did have other colors, though.

Ana, I'm comfortable as long as there isn't a strong breeze.

If you have good bottom coverage I would say "go for it!" You really have great legs for a 40-year-old (not that that is any significant age these days). I would skip it because I have a big booty and never have good bottom coverage in anything shorter than knee length. Also, I frequently have to squat in public-- I swear I wear nice undies, but that doesn't mean I want to flash them. I think the dress looks good. If you are planning on belting it though, try it with the belt first before deciding. I have one dress that has become a tunic because I didn't think about the inches that it would "shrink" when I belted it.

I have that dress, in pink, and I'll be wearing leggings or tights with it. I feel a little too "free" without the extra coverage. But I have 4 kids, so I'm often bending, kneeling, etc.

I like the way it looks just as it is, but I do understand what you mean. It'd look wonderful with a pair of tights in a cool texture.

Yeah, I would opt for hose/leggings with that for my 37 year old self I think.

i'll be the tiny voice of dissent--not on the length issue...you've got great legs! it's mostly the shape of the dress. it has a very young shape, almost like a little girl dress, giving the overall look a child-like silhouette.

It's a lovely color and beautifully accessorized, but my first thought was "too big!" It's hard to tell with the scarf and such, but do you think it's a bit too roomy through the torso/hips?

It's not that you're swimming in it...it just looks like it tents out a bit.

I think it looks great on your great legs! You might feel more comfortable with leggings under, and that would look great too!

I think it looks fab from head to toe. If you feel uncomfortable like it is wear pattern hose or tights if not wear it like it is. You are not old and have a good shape for the dress.

I tried this year's version on too. The arms/shoulder area felt much more snug than last year's version (or maybe it's the extra weight I'm packing...). But perhaps it is longer too. I was going to try the dropped waist version next time I see it in the store. I really like the green color on you!

Shana, I ordered both a medium and a large. I could barely squeeze my arms into the medium! I agree that it's more snug. It also pulled at the chest, but I had that problem last year, too. These pictures are of the large.

I actually went in my closet and held it up to last year's version. Exactly the same length. I must just be feeling confident, because last year there was NO WAY I would have considered wearing it sans leggings. I tend to run cold, so I doubt I'd wear this with bare legs anyway.

OK, thanks! At least it's not just me! I actually squeezed myself into a small last year but I could barely get the medium on this year. I was afraid that I was going to have a major wardrobe malfunction in the dressing room and have to ask the attendant to help me pull it off (because my two year-old was no help at all!). Yeah, I had the bust pulling too. I just wore a cami underneath and left the buttons unbuttoned.
