Oily skin and sunscreen

I know wearing sunscreen everyday on your face is important, but it makes my face so greasy!!! I am currently using Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-touch sunblock. Still leaves my face shiny. I have also tried Cetaphil facial moisturizer with SPF 50. That was worse! Any suggestions? Is there such a thing as a sunscreen that leaves a matte finish? I'm about to give up and not wear it!

I love Clarins sunscreen. It does not leave a shine. You can find it at most department stores with cosmetic counters.
The Clarins sunscreen is very thin liquidy fluid and you only use a few drops to pat on your face.
On my arms I use any regular drugstore brand.

Someone recommended Peter Thomas Roth uber-dry SPF30 sunscreen to me. I also have very oily skin and it is the best one I have ever tried. It is a bit on the pricey side, but it so worth it in my opinion.

I had the exact same problem and then someone recommended Eucerin facial moisterizer with SPF 30. It's feels great and doesn't leave my face greasy or shiny. I found it at Walgreens and it cost around $10.

I find a swirl of face powder or blusher helps- sometimes needs topping up throughout the day but could help while you use up your current sunscreen x

Is this for every-day use, or for the beach?

For every-day use, have you tried a moisturizer with SPF? Instead of a sunscreen? For example for decades I relied on Oil of Olay with SPF15. Recently I switched to Lancome Re-Energie with SPF - this stuff is doing amazing things to my skin! In the summer I add to it Almay Smart Shade tinted sunscreen, also SPF 15. The combo leaves my skin looking firm, even, and glowing.

SPF 15 applied long before I go out the door is enough for every-day use to keep my face protected. If I go to the beach, then I haul out the more powerful sunscreen and reapply frequently.

Incidentally, I have always had a problem with Cetaphil. I know it's supposed to be gentle and non-allergenic and all that, but when I use it I get itchy, irritated skin that goes into hyperdrive and produces too much oil. Soooo... it is NOT for everyone. You may be having a similar reaction to what I had.

As Loulou suggested, I brush a powder foundation over the sunblock. No shine at all then. I think my sunblock is the same one that you are using. Are you using the one for the face? I've also find that some of the shine goes away if I take a bit more time and rub it in.

I like Eucerin spf 30 as well and always a bit of powder over to cut the shine. Chemical sunscreens usually break me out so I have tried about 100 different kinds (slight exaggeration but not by much).

I use La Roche Posay's Anthelios sunscreen (one of the highest photostable ppd sunscreens on the market). I use the cream version because I have the opposite problem - very dry skin but I know they make a version for oily/acne prone skin as well that is a different consistency. I actually do layer some powder on top and find that the sunscreen almost acts like a primer so I get this great matte finish to my skin!

Thank you all for the suggestions! I went out and picked up the Eucerin Everyday Protection Face Lotion SPF 30. I decided to start with the less expensive brand. To tell you the truth I am afraid of anything that does not state non-comedogenic. Gee, I'm even afraid of the items that do! I was using Nuetrogena and Cetaphil and they made me break out. I am starting to think it's sunscreen in general that makes me break out. I stopped using it for the last week and my skin is already more clear.

I was using powder over my sunscreen and foundation. I still had oily breakthrough within an hour. Which then lead to acne breakout. What a mess!
Hopefully this stuff does the trick or I'm done with sunscreen.

Well, Karlie and Chris I love love love the Eucerin sunscreen. No more shine and no more breakout!!! I had made an appointment with my derm, but I canceled it because I've solved my own problems thanks to you guys. I love when an inexpensive brand does the trick! I'm finding more and more that they do. Now just to find an inexpensive eye cream. That is one thing that I have not had any luck with. Any suggestions there?

Shannon, I'm so glad the Eucerin worked for you. I've had great luck with it and the fact that it's budget friendly is a big bonus for me. I don't have any suggestions for an eye cream, but when I was looking for a moisterizer with SPF, I did a lot of research on this site:

I was still a little confused after all that reading so I emailed the guide with my questions; she's the one who recommended the Eucerin. There may be some information there about eye creams. Good luck!
