Need Help..Beach portraits

Hi I'm new to the forum. I am struggling with outfits for beach portraits. I am looking at possibly a white dress for me, I bought a white dress for my daughter (at crewcuts) and white button downs and denim for my husband and son. I am debating between two dresses for me. They are both at JCrew clearance section one is a linen wrap dress with ruffle neckline, and the other is a more traditional beach dress...here are the links...

Both dresses I would get in white. I am petite at 5'2 and have an hourglass figure. Anyway any help would be appreciated...and of course any other suggestions are welcome!

Hi Brandy, I could only see the ruffled dress.

I've seen a lot of beach portraits, and another common combo with the white is khaki pants/shorts for the boys/men.

I used to work for a portrait studio, they trained me as a "photographer", but it was all very cookie cutter, not a true photographer. But I did have to train on color composition. Typically, we would tell people not to wear white in photos because it will wash you out. But for some reason, it seems to work in beach photos. I'd be sure to put a little bronzer on everyone though--just to make sure no one looks too pale.

Without seeing you in them, I vote for the ruffle collar dress. I think it will create a more flattering silhoutte.

Great tip on the bronzer I didn't think of that!! I thought that too about white for pictures plus, my daughter is 15months old and son 3 so I am a little nervous about white..but looking through other pictures I think the white looks nice on the beach...but will try out the bronzer!

I like both dresses, but the one with the ruffles gets my vote. Have you thought about adding a colored item on each person for a spot of color: Maybe a statement piece of jewelry for you, a headband for your daughter, a watch or belt for your son. They could all be color coordinated, or not.

I agree with the ladies and I think that the dress with the ruffles also gets my vote. I think Becky has made a great suggestion with adding one fun colored accessory, maybe in red or turquoise?

The ruffle dress is beautiful.
Our family had beach photos done and we all wore blue denim on the bottom. It really looked beautiful with the blue sky and blue water.

Well I'm odd man out. I think the whole concept of an all white clad family photo on the beach, is simplicity. I think the simpler plainer dress is going to go better with the concept of the photo. I would go barefoot, have the pants rolled up on the men/boys, and keep away from any color--it will stand out too much. If you want to have accessories, keep them white.
