I have been searching high and low for the right long wool coat, and I finally found one that fit almost all of my criteria. It had to be:
-long enough to cover all my dresses, but not down to my ankles
-have interesting details or shape
-cinch in at the waist, either visually or with a belt
-preferably a great color
-wool, wool, wool!
I got everything but the color; it's black, but there are so many great details it definitely still stands out as unique. There is a flared skirt hem at the bottom, a great built-in belt, a funnel neck that looks great open or buttoned up one button, and cute epaulets on the shoulder. Believe me, this is not a boring black coat!
Here are some photos. I over-exposed them a lot so you could see the details of the coat, but it really is black and a very nice wool.

Best of all, by waiting a week to buy it, I saved $70! It's a Calvin Klein that I could only find at Von Maur department store for $214. I saw it the week before Thanksgiving, but I thought I would wait until Black Friday and see if the price went down. Turns out, they don't have store-wide advertised sales so they weren't doing anything for the day...but they had marked down these coats to $143! Woohoo, it was mine.
Phew. Just in time for the weather to turn super-cold, too!
