Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

My Office is going to a "uniform"

After taking a few days off from work, I came in on Monday to discover that the CEO has approved our office to start wearing scrubs instead of our usual business casual. I have mixed feelings about this.

Since I am pregnant, I like the thought of wearing scrubs to work every day, the comfort level is high. However, scrubs are some what limiting in their expression of "style". But our CEO is not requiring us to have the same scrub sets. She stipulated that we must wear grey, black, navy, brown, or white bottoms with "dressier" scrub tops.

Those requirements pose their own set of challenges. So as it stands now, I am on the hunt for "dressier" scrubs in the aforementioned colors that will fit my current and ever expanding pregnancy body.

(Sigh)

I think I'd probably end up going with the white bottoms and prettily colored tops like pink, turquoise, and purple. Those other options are pretty bleak to wear head to toe IMO. Think about how easy it'll be to get dressed in the morning though!

What are scrubs? pardon my ignorance but this is an expression I have never heard.

Scrubs is the term applied to the uniforms that most medical professional wear - they consist of pants and a top. Here is an example of the tops and bottoms that i have ordered:

Thank you for the explanation Kimlee. They look slightly like pj's for work. I think you have chosen nice options that will be very comfortable through your pregnancy.

PJ's for work is an excellent way to describe them. I am just hoping that I can accesorize them enough that they still reflect my personal style.

Your wardrobe budget will be minimal if you have to wear scrubs daily, Kimlee. That’s the good news!

Angie - You make a good point. Aside from the intial outlay that I will have to make to purchase the scrubs, my work wardrobe budget will be zero. This leaves more money for smart casual pieces, accessories, and shoes. :-)

I am trying to find the positive of this situation.

oh.. Kimlee.. I would die if I had to wear that for work!!
I'm sorry for not being very optimistic.. eh eh

They look like PJ's.. not very easy to accessorize, but Angie is right.. you'll save a lot of money in clothes.

Rute - I had the exact same thoughts as you when I first received the news. My saving grace will be the fact that if I have meetings with management, board members, etc. I will be required to wear business attire - which means I will have one day a week that I'll be in business casual and on Fridays we are allowed to wear jeans, so that is when I will bring out my smart casual outfits.
